Pete Doherty makes exciting career announcement after he revealed he’s at risk of having his toes amputated

Pete Doherty has revealed he will be performing at a string of special shows to mark the release of his upcoming solo music project.

The Libertines frontman, 45, is set to release his new album Felt Better Alive on May 16, and he will celebrate the achievement with a series of shows at UK record stores.

Pete, who recently revealed he is at risk of having his toes amputated, will kick off the run with an intimate performance at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club.

He will then take to the stage at Pryzm Kingston and Rough Trade East London, with ticket and album sales both kicking off on February 27 at 10am.

Bundle tickets for the album and shows are expected to sell out quickly, with a ‘limited capacity’ on offer at the intimate venues.

Ahead of the release, Pete has excited fans by sharing his new track Calvados, which will feature on the H๏τly-anticipated album.

Pete recently gave a candid insight into his health as he told how doctors have warned him that his Type 2 diabetes could see him lose his toes.

The singer has also been fitted with specialist footwear after he performed from a chair on the last five dates of his European tour.

In a video obtained by The Sun at his gig in Munich, Germany, earlier this month, Pete provided his fans with a health update.

He said: ‘I saw the doctor today and he said you need to stay off your feet as much as you can otherwise you’ll lose your toes.’

Those with type 2 diabetes are at higher risk for many related health problems, including foot or leg amputation.

Pete’s health journey has inspired him to create a ‘wellness room’ backstage during his tour with the help of the team from Root2Rise.

PH๏τos show The Libertines have yoga, Reiki and Wim Hof breath work all available on the agenda to help them unwind on tour.

The Wim Hof Method – named after the eccentric health guru – is said to reduce stress, boosts the immune system and even help treat cancer, diabetes and arthritis.

Giving an insight into their work with Pete on Instagram, Root2Rise shared a series of pH๏τos and wrote: ‘Rock & roll meets rest & recharge!’

They added: ‘Mᴀssive love to The Libertines who are rewriting backstage culture with their inspiring ‘wellness room’—a sanctuary for them, their crew, family, and supporter bands to hit pause amidst the chaos of tour life.

‘Late nights, adrenaline-packed shows, and life on the road! They’ve got everyone covered with care and heart.

‘We’re in awe of their pᴀssion for creating space to breathe and relax and yes, singing along to their tunes is a huge perk too! Wellness, but make it rock & roll.’

Last spring, Pete confirmed his diabetes diagnosis, saying: ‘I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And at the moment, I’m lacking the discipline to tackle cholesterol.’

Pete, who had a highly publicised battle with drugs, has given up the ‘main poisons’ to improve his health after his doctor issued a stark warning.

Speaking to The Guardian’s Saturday Magazine, he said: ‘I gave up the main poisons and my health improved.

‘Then you get told alcohol and cheese and sugar are just as bad and you were healthier when you were on heroin.’

Pete then went on to call himself ‘a bit of a glutton’.

‘It’s not a joke,’ he said. ‘I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And at the moment I’m lacking the discipline to tackle cholesterol.’

But it seems Pete has worked on his lack of discipline after receiving some harsh words from his doctor.

The star previously told the Evening Standard that his doctor had told him he had to change his diet immediately.

He told the publication: ‘I have seen a liver doctor who says I need to change my diet – too much cheese, too much milk.

‘But the cheese is so good, that’s part of the reason I stay here… It’s a cholesterol and diabetes thing now, but there are tablets, it makes a big difference.’

The rocker has previously admitted that his larger figure is the result of tucking in to his guilty pleasure.

In 2021,  Pete said he had ditched drugs and was instead indulging on cheese on toast and enjoying long lie ins after staying up for six days straight during his wildest years.

Pete relocated to France with his wife Katia de Vidas and his daughter Billie-May several years ago.

In the UK about 90 per cent of diabetic adults have Type 2 diabetes

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high.

There are two main types of diabetes:

– Type 1, where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.

– Type 2, where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body’s cells do not react to insulin.

Type 2 diabetes is far more common than Type 1.

In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have Type 2.

Reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes can be achieved through healthy eating, regular exercise and achieving a healthy body weight.

The main symptoms of diabetes include: feeling very thirsty, urinating more frequently (particularly at night), feeling very tired, weight loss, and loss of muscle bulk.
