James Bye looks decidedly dashing in first look images of his new role as Mr Darcy in the new stage production of Death Comes to Pemberley.
Just days ago, the actor, 41, left EastEnders fans devastated when his character Martin Fowler was tragically killed off following an explosion at the Queen Vic.
However, fans needn’t mourn long as James has thrown himself straight into his new role, with the actor channeling Jane Austen’s famous character in new promotional images.
James appeared exceptionally smart in the snaps, donning a tan overcoat, waistcoat and shirt in fitting with the period of which the play is set.
He was also seen posing alongside Jamie-Rose Duke, who will be making her stage debut playing James’ on-stage wife Elizabeth Darcy.
The new murder mystery is an adaption of PD James’s sequel to Pride and Prejudice and is set six years after the events in Austen’s famous novel.

Speaking about the exciting new role, James said in a statement: ‘After a decade of gritty storylines it’s going to be quite a switch to put on period clothes as one of literature’s romantic leading men, but I can’t wait for this new chapter to begin.’
James’ new role was revealed on Lorraine on Tuesday, with his pal Tyler West – who became good pals with the soap star during their time on Strictly together – revealing all.
Tyler said: ‘It was such an incredible scene. But now his next career move has been announced.
‘He’s going to be playing none other than Mr Darcy in Death Comes to Pemberley.
‘It’s like a stage production show that will be touring across the UK as well. James looks good in it!’
James’ talent agency Revolution Talent also shared the news on Instagram.
They wrote on their page: ‘James Bye will star as Mr Darcy in the theatrical world premiere of Death Comes To Pemberley.
‘The production will open at The Mill at Sonning from 1st May – 28th June, before touring 8 venues across the UK.

Earlier this month, James said goodbye to his role on EastEnders.
His alter-ego tragically pᴀssed away in Stacey Fowler’s arms after a steel beam fell on him following the explosion at the Queen Vic.
Martin first arrived in Walford on July 30, 1985, and was first played by Jon Peyton-Price and then James Alexandrou, before James Bye took on the role in 2014.
During his 10 years on the soap opera, James has been at the centre of some of EastEnders’ biggest storylines and shared some poignant words upon his exit.

He said: ‘Saying goodbye is not easy, but after 10 years at EastEnders and on the night of the shows epic 40th anniversary – the time felt right.
‘It’s an honour to leave on a story of this magnitude. A huge thank you to all the fans of the show – EastEnders wouldn’t be what it is without you – and to the BBC and EastEnders team for trusting me with this role for so many years.
‘This fruit and veg man will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s time to look forward, and I’m incredibly excited for what the future holds. RIP Martin Fowler.’
Meanwhile, Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw added: ‘It’s incredibly sad to say goodbye to James, who has been a much loved loyal company member for 10 years.
Martin was tragically killed during the soap’s live episode last week, after being crushed by a beam following an explosion at the Queen Vic
‘James’ performance in tonight’s live episode was nothing short of outstanding and one that I know will touch so many of you watching at home due to his loveable portrayal of Martin Fowler, which has made him a firm favourite amongst the viewers.
‘When discussing James’ exit, we knew that we needed to give Martin Fowler the big explosive storyline that his character deserved.
‘To leave the show in such an emotional storyline, during a live episode is something incredibly courageous to do as an actor, and one that I’m sure will cement itself in EastEnders’ history.
‘I would like to thank James for everything he’s given to EastEnders, and although we will all miss him here at Elstree, he will always remain a member of the EastEnders family and we wish him the best for the future.’
