Sean Stewart has admitted himself to rehab in another attempt to deal with his reoccurring addiction issues after his famous family staged an intervention.

The eldest son of Rod Stewart has battled problems with substance abuse for years and split with his wife Jody Weintraub last year.

He is currently holed away at the $80,000-a-mo Cliffside Malibu rehabilitation facility where his close friend Scott Disick once sought treatment for his own issues. 

‘Sean is in rehab for addiction,’ an insider told DailyMail.com. ‘He’s had a long history of substance abuse, and he decided to get help when he saw that he was falling off the deep end again.

The songwriter, 43, has admitted it wasn’t easy growing up as the son of rock star Rod and previously claimed all celebrity children are ‘f****d up’.

MailOnline takes a look at Sean’s upbringing from being the apple of his father’s eye to personal turmoil that has followed him in recent years.

Sean was Rod’s third child and the oldest boy, born to the musician’s first wife Alana Stewart in 1980. 

Socialite and TV personality Kimberly Stewart who was born a year earlier is his only full sibling.  

Sean has admitted he struggled growing up as the son of the one of the most famous musician’s in the world.

The producer told how he was able to get into any club in Hollywood from a young age and he also felt people wanted to be his friend simply because of who his father was.

As a result, Sean believes all children of celebrities have issues in some form.

‘Being Rod Stewart’s son is a curse and a hindrance,’ he previously told the Daily Mail. ‘All celebrity children are f***** up. It’s called the Rock ‘n’ Roll Royalty Curse.

‘We were able to get into any Hollywood club we wanted to from an early age, and a lot of people wanted to be our friends just because of who our parents are.

‘Other people want to live this life, but they don’t know all of it. It’s tough growing up when your dad’s one of the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll stars.’

Sean previously revealed he was ‘around 13’ and a student at Beverly Hills High School when he first started drinking. He later transitioned to harder drugs including ecstasy and heroin.

‘I would go to parties at that age and drink and smoke cannabis and cigarettes,’ he told the Mail back in 2012. ‘It was very easy for me to get drugs.

‘I would just walk into a party and someone would hand them to me. I hardly ever paid for them.

‘First, I got really badly into Ecstasy. Then I started on the prescription pills like Vicodin, and then cocaine. And finally I got into heroin.’

By the time he was 19 he had a fully developed drug habit and an alcohol addiction, and as a result had his allowance cut off and was sent to Meadows, a famous treatment centre in Arizona.

He later overdosed, and in December 2001 was arrested and jailed for 90 days after he pleaded no contest to ᴀssault with a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly weapon on then 19-year old student, Jason Rogland, in the car park of a restaurant in Malibu.

He has since had multiple stints in rehab.

Despite his run-ins with the law, Rod previously said he is proud of all his children and none of them have been in ‘serious trouble’. 

Speaking to Haute Living, he said: ‘I’m very lenient with them. None have gotten into any serious trouble. A couple dabbled with drugs, but that’s all done now. I’m very proud of them all.

‘I don’t think I’m as strict with my kids as my mom and dad – especially my dad – were.’  

Sean’s latest troubles comes months after the breakdown of his whirlwind marriage to Jody, the daughter of American film producer Jerry Weintraub.

In February 2023, Sean announced they had married in Sin City.

The couple, who met through a mutual pal, producer Courtenay Semel, wed on Valentine’s Day, with Sean proposing during a romantic meal at Catch, with the couple making things official just hours later.

They reportedly bought a house together in Los Angeles early last year, just months before reports surfaced claiming they had split.

Soon after he started dating Julia who was linked to Sheen of Two And A Half Men fame. She was hired as a nanny for his twin boys Max and Bob by his ex-wife Brooke Mueller who introduced the pair. They later started dating in 2017.

Sean and Julia were recently pictured on board a $150 million super yacht with the Stewart clan in celebration of Rod’s 80th.

The veteran rocker gathered his big, blended family for a 10-day bash in Barbados.

The chart-topper has eight children by five women.

His eldest is daughter Sarah Streeter, 61, who he had with his ex-girlfriend Susannah Boffey in November 1963. He went on to welcome Kimberly, 45, and Sean with his ex-wife Alana Stewart, and daughter Ruby, 37, with his ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg. He then had Renee, 32, and Liam, 30, with his ex-wife Rachel Hunter. His youngest are sons Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14, who he has with his current wife, Penny Lancaster.

He is also a grandfather to Kimberly’s daughter, Delilah, Ruby’s son, Otis, and Liam’s son, Louie.
