Megan Thee Stallion’s attorneys want to interview rapper Tory Lanez behind bars for defamation lawsuit

Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team is seeking to depose Tory Lanez behind bars a year and a half after he began a 10-year prison stint following his conviction for shooting her.

Attorneys for the 30-year-old hitmaker (born Megan Pete) had filed a motion requesting to interview Lanez, 32, under oath.

On Monday, a federal judge signed off on the request, which was unopposed, according to Rolling Stone.

Megan Thee Stallion is seeking to depose Lanez (real name: Daystar Peterson) in a defamation and cyberstalking lawsuit she filed against the YouTuber Milagro Gramz (real name: Milagro Cooper).

The blogger shared updates supporting Lanez throughout his trial, and Megan has accused her of being a ‘paid surrogate’ spreading ‘vicious and hateful rumors’ for him even from behind bars.

The WAP rapper’s attorneys don’t plan to meet with Lanez in prison, but instead got the judge to sign off on a remote deposition.

Rolling Stone notes that Megan would be allowed to sit in on the questioning if she desires since she is the plaintiff in the lawsuit.

But Ceasar McDowell, the CEO of Unite the People, a nonprofit law firm that is representing Lanez on his appeal, denied that the organization’s client had any intention of speaking to Megan’s lawyers.

‘If you know Tory Lanez how I do, good luck trying to get him to “testify” to anything, it’s just not what he does,’ he claimed in a statement, adding that Lanez ‘definitely did not “agree” to testify now.’

McDowell noted that Lanez ‘is not a party’ to the lawsuit against Milagro Gramz, so he says United the People is not obligated to have him sit for a deposition.

Gramz is also being represented by Unite the People.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Unite the People for comment on Lanez’s behalf.

Gramz’s attorney, Michael Pancier, told Rolling Stone that she was not opposing the motion for the deposition.

Megan’s attempts to get Lanez on the record comes a month after a judge signed off on her request for a civil restraining order against him.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Richard Bloom ruled last month that Lanez is barred from contact Megan in any form, including through intermediaries, for five years.

Megan had testified in court that Lanez had led a ‘campaign of harᴀssment’ against her even while he was incarcerated, according to Billboard.

She testified at the time that she feared Lanez would orchestrate a violent reprisal against her once he was released.

‘It just seems like I have to relive it every day,’ she tearfully testified. ‘The person who sH๏τ me won’t let me forget it. I’m scared that when he gets out of jail he’s going to still be upset with me … I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again and maybe this time I won’t make it.’

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the earliest Lanez will be eligible for parole is May 2029.

The federal judge who signed off on Megan’s attempt to depose Lanez notably did not mention her protective order against him in their ruling, and they reportedly didn’t specify any limitations on what questions can be asked.

During his December 2022 trial for shooting Megan, Lanez opted not to testify in his defense before he was found guilty of three counts, including first-degree ᴀssault with a firearm, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and having a concealed firearm in a vehicle.

If he were to be asked any questions regarding the shooting, it’s likely that he would invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination so as not to affect his ongoing appeal of his conviction.

In Megan’s lawsuit against Gramz, she accused the blogger of going as far as to share a ‘deepfake pornographic video’ depicting her, a move that Megan’s attorney Alex Spiro says violates a Florida statute banning ‘altered Sєxual depictions’ of real people.

In a statement shared with DailyMail.com in October, Megan said: ‘It’s time to hold bloggers accountable for years of harᴀssment, cyberbullying and the publication of misinformation about my personal and professional life.

‘I’ve endured countless attacks on my character based on false narratives from social media bloggers misrepresenting themselves as journalists.’

She continued: ‘It’s unacceptable behavior and these individuals need to understand there will be repercussions for recklessly posting lies and defamatory falsehoods.’

In a statement posted to X, Gramz acknowledged the lawsuit and confirmed that she had ‘been informed that I’m being sued by Alex Spiro on behalf of his client Megan Thee Stallion.’

After quoting from the letter, she added: ‘Of course we’ll chat about it. They threw in the tape too.’

The lawsuit claims that Gramz spread false statements ‘for no other reason than to bully, harᴀss and punish Ms. Pete for [Lanez’s] conviction and to tarnish her reputation, causing emotional distress.’

Citing the bloggers decision to share the alleged deepfake video, the suit read: ‘The lengths to which Defendant Cooper goes to harᴀss Ms. Pete knows no bounds. For example, she has gone so far as to share a deepfake pornographic video of Ms. Pete.

‘After Defendant’s conduct led to a firestorm of negative reaction from others, Defendant doubled-down in a YouTube video on June 9, 2024, claiming Ms. Pete was a “professional victim” and denying any wrongdoing.’

It continued: ‘But Defendant is wrong — her conduct was an unlawful promotion of an altered Sєxual depiction and caused Ms. Pete severe emotional distress and reputational harm.’

The suit noted that Megan has ‘repeatedly tried to stop Defendant Cooper’s misconduct’ and ‘asked what it would take to stop being posted on Defendant’s platforms.’

‘In response, Defendant provided the snide advice that Ms. Pete should “just get over it, or go away,”‘ the suit alleges.

Megan’s attorney wrote in a letter to the blogger: ‘Ms. Pete — a victim of violent crime and champion of women’s rights to her millions of fans worldwide — will no longer stand for defendant’s campaign of harᴀssment.’

He stated that Gramz repeatedly spread falsehoods about the case, including questioning whether Megan was even sH๏τ and making the claim that the rapper was ‘caught trying to deceive the courts.’

It is claimed that Gramz most recently pushed the ‘outlandish claim’ that the gun used in the shooting had gone missing, as an example of how the YouTuber has been acting as a ‘paid surrogate used to spread lies’ on behalf of Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson.

Spiro wrote: ‘For years, you and other bloggers have acted on behalf of Mr. Peterson (aka Tory Lanez) as an online rumor mill churning out falsehoods about Ms. Pete to your tens of thousands of social media followers…

In a statement posted to X, Gramz acknowledged the lawsuit and told her followers: 'Of course we¿ll chat about it. They threw in the tape too'

‘Plaintiff is aware of your conspiratorial relationship with Mr. Peterson and knows you are a paid surrogate of Mr. Peterson. Your conduct has repeatedly confirmed this. Indeed, you promoted the debunked theory that Mr. Peterson did not shoot Plaintiff, when all of the evidence proved otherwise and your theory repeatedly debased.’

Spiro accused Gramz of describing Megan as an ‘angry black woman’ and a ‘lying ᴀss hoe’ who claimed the rapper had ‘a severe drinking problem’ and needed to ‘spend more time in a relationship with herself and her therapist and maybe AA.’

The lawsuit accused Gramz of ‘regularly’ enlisting ‘bot’ X accounts to ‘attack and harᴀss Plaintiff’s fans and supporters whenever they challenge your false statements.’

Megan’s attorney continued: ‘Through this letter, we are putting you on notice of the claims and procedures for preserving and retaining potentially relevant information.

‘The civil claims filed against you include but are not limited promotion of an altered Sєxual depiction, cyberstalking, intentional infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy: false light, and injunctive relief for your campaign of harᴀssment against Ms. Pete.

‘Ms. Pete reserves the right to amend her complaint to include additional causes of action based on your misconduct, such as defamation.’

The Canadian musician was convicted after a bitter war of words with Megan, leading to equally heated public discourse by fans of the hitmakers.

Following his conviction, Lanez could be deported to Canada, where he was born.

In a statement, Megan said: 'It¿s time to hold bloggers accountable for years of harᴀssment, cyberbullying and the publication of misinformation about my personal and professional life'

The incarcerated musician was raised from birth in Brampton, Ontario, before the rapper’s family moved to Montreal, and then later relocated south of the border, first to Miami and then to Atlanta.

In an emotional testimony during Lanez’s trial, Megan admitted she had had a Sєxual relationship with the defendant and recounted how they got into an argument in the back of his SUV while in the Hollywood Hills.

Early in the day on July 12, 2020, they had attended a pool party thrown at Kylie Jenner’s home, and the two had been drinking prior to their subsequent argument.

Megan testified that she asked Lanez’s driver to let her out of the car, at which point she said he screamed ‘Dance b****!’ and began firing his handgun at her.

He allegedly sH๏τ it five times and hit the WAP rapper in the feet, which later required surgery to correct the damage.

Megan then claimed he had offered her and her friend Kelsey Harris $1 million dollars to stay silent about the shooting, as he was ‘on probation’ already.

Megan also claimed Lanez apologized to her after the fact and attributed the shooting to him being drunk.
