Ugly Betty was America’s breakout role as she starred as Betty Suarez, which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series in the first season.
The show followed Betty, a smart but awkward 22-year-old who landed a job at a high-profile fashion magazine, created by Silvio Horta (Urban Legend), based on Fernando Gaitan’s Colombian series Yo soy Betty, la fea (I Am Betty, The Ugly One).
The hit series was Vanessa’s first starring TV role, playing the conniving Wilhemina Slater.
Slater had been with the magazine for years and, after being pᴀssed over for the editor-in-chief role by Daniel, she tries anything and everything to make that job hers.
Vanessa earned three Emmy nominations for her portrayal, considered to be one of the best villains in TV history.

The show ran for four seasons on ABC from 2006 to 2010, and while it was cancelled for low ratings, it has developed a cult following ever since going off the air.
It comes after Vanessa discussed if she would like to return to Ugly Betty, on The Jonathan Ross Show, on Saturday.
She said: ‘I would love to do it. I don’t know what world it would be as America [Ferrera] is obviously an adult now.
‘I don’t know if she takes over Mode magazine and what happens to Wilhelmina and Mark, I don’t know. I loved that cast.’
Elsewhere on the ITV show, Vanessa detailed the ‘betrayal’ she felt over the ɴuᴅᴇ pH๏τo scandal that ended her 1984 Miss America reign.
The actress made history when she became the first black woman to win the famous pageant when she was 20-years-old.
However, she was forced to give up her crown after 10 months her former boss pH๏τographer Tom Chiapel sold ɴuᴅᴇ pictures he’d taken of her in 1982 to Penthouse magazine for $50K without her consent.
Vanessa recalled: ‘The pH๏τographer that took these did not have a release and sold them behind my back.
‘I’m doing a documentary that is in the works. It was betrayal, it was not good.

‘It made me who I am and in retrospect there would have been nothing that I could have done to navigate better.’
She added: ‘I thank my parents who were so supportive and also the community who said “we’re here and we believe in you.”
‘It was a lot to deal with at 21 years old. I only had four weeks left to go in my reign and this all came out of the blue – it was a lot to manage.’
Officials gave Vanessa 72 hours to resign after Miss America’s sponsors threatened to pull out, but she was allowed to keep her crown and scholarship money.
Two months later, the 11-time Grammy nominee filed a $500M lawsuit against Chiapel and Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione, which she dropped a year later.
She said she was always confident the dust would eventually settle.
