Celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero, whose clients included Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry, has died ‘suddenly and unexpectedly’.

Jesus’ sister Gris announced the sad news online, but no cause of death for the 34-year-old has been released. 

Gris released a statement via a GoFundMe page on Saturday night, confirming the pᴀssing of the Texas native who was based in Los Angeles.

Jesus had first began working with Kylie in 2019, but had also reflected on his ‘traumatic’ childhood following his parents’ divorce, and being raised by his beloved great-aunt.

‘My name is Gris, Jesus’s younger sister,’ she wrote. ‘It is with a heavy heart that we let the world know that Jesus Guerrero has gone to heaven.

‘He is a son, a brother, an uncle, an artist, a friend, and so much more.’

‘Born and raised in Houston, TX to immigrant parents, Jesus learned how to work hard and dreamt of taking his skills to the top. 

‘Unfortunately, his pᴀssing came very suddenly and unexpectedly. Currently, his family is taking care of his personal belongings and accommodations to bring him home to Houston.

‘We hope that you find it in your heart to help in any way and/or share this GoFundMe.’ The page has a $60,000 target, with more than half already being raised.

Following news of his death, Kylie’s make-up artist Ariel Tejada posted a lengthy tribute on Instagram.

Posting a selection of snaps from their friendship, he wrote: ‘Last night I experienced the most painful, breathtaking pain I have ever felt when I found out you left us @jesushair.

‘Family is not always just ᴀssigned at birth sometimes they are chosen and you were my chosen family. 

‘I told you this many times before, I don’t know how I could have done the past 10 years of this whole journey without you, to which you would always reply saying ”I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else” and now that you’re gone I’m unsure how I will continue the same without you. 

‘You were my Anchor, my Rock, in every room we made magic in together. We in sync on a level that only you and I will ever comprehend. 

‘You were a safe haven for me that gave me the push to be the best version of myself in every room we were in together! More than a friend you were my brother.

‘There’s a lot to learn from Jesus, not only his insane talent of which most you have come to know him for, but also his humility, his compᴀssion, his resilience, his drive and love for life and all the Good and happiness that he brought into every room he walked in and every life he impacted with his brilliant soul.

In 2020, Kylie Jenner poked fun at the hairstylist in her own Insta clip, jokingly accusing him of cutting her hair shorter than she asked for 

‘There was no one like you, Jesus, and there will never be. I’ll see you later, cause I can’t Goodbye. I love you so so much my favorite Angel forever, rest in Heaven.’

Following the news of Jesus’ death, many users shared their own tributes in the comments section of his last Instagram post.

‘Rest in peace Jesus. I love you and all the joy you brought every time you graced me with your presence. 

‘You were so up lifting always and such a hype man in any situation. Your heart was pure. Fly high legend. I know for a fact you’re in heaven;’

‘Love you Jesus❤️ You were always so kind to me and I jokingly always said you had the name of a Lion. I’ll see you once again;’

‘I’m in so much shock. you were such a light & always the biggest sweetheart jesus, praying so hard for your family right now rest in peace angel.’

Jesus had a celebrity clientale and regularly appeared in social media posts shared by his A-list friends.

His work had appeared on the cover of Vogue five times, and while Kylie was one of his most featured clients, he also worked on Jennifer Lopez and Demi Moore. 

Growing up in Texas, Jesus previously shared that his parents divorced when he was at a young age, and while he was brought up by his father, he struggled to juggle parenting with a full-time job, and so he was ‘raised’ by his great-aunt.

Speaking during an interview with Matt Cullen in 2022, he said: ‘It was traumatising, it was difficult. Seeing your Mom just not being genuinely who she is as a person.

Last year, Jesus shared a clip of his looks with Katy Perry, and was previously responsible for her famous spiky-haired look

He had also worked on Jennifer Lopez, and regularly shared snaps and videos of his work on social media

‘They deal with difficultness, they’re just trying to be young at the same time they’re just trying to raise a child and that alone is difficult.’

Calling his great-aunt his parent, he added that her pᴀssing when he was 22 was a ‘very dark time in his life.’

Jesus originally began working as a hairdresser in Houston, but later relocated to Los Angeles with $10,000 in savings.

Working weddings and various small events to earn cash, he revealed his big break came when he began working with YouTube star Trisha Paytas, and featured heavily in her videos.

He then landed a job styling the hair of entrepreneur Lilly Ghalichi, after his boyfriend at the time was forced to pull out, and he first met Kylie in 2019, through her makeup artist Ariel.

Detailing the night he was first asked to do her hair, he shared she requested a ‘bob’ as she was planning to attend a concert.

He explained: ‘At the time I had no ᴀssistant I had nothing, so I remember running to my house, I remember organised my kit, blow-drying all my extensions just making sure everything was extremely organised and prepared.

‘I got there, I laid out all my extensions, I had to make sure I was on 1000… I just wanted to give it my all.’

Jesus added that while that was the first time he’d worked on Kylie’s hair, it was the look he did for her attendance of Clive Davis’ pre-Grammys the skyrocketed his career.

And while he has worked on a string of stars since, he shared that he one day hoped to launch his own haircare brand. 

In April 2024, Jesus appeared in a social media clip shared by Katy Perry as he cut her hair into a short, spiky style. 

In 2020, Kylie Jenner poked fun at the hairstylist in her own Insta clip, jokingly accusing him of cutting her hair shorter than she asked for.

Jesus only recently travelled to Paris with Kylie, sharing pH๏τos of the trip with ‘my main girly’ and his styles for the star. 

Just two weeks before that trip he styled Kylie’s hair for her Golden Globes appearance. 

His most recent Instagram post, uploaded on February 3, showcased a collection of his hairstyles for famous faces at the Grammy’s.
