Channel 4 slaps ANOTHER beloved comedy with a woke trigger warning over ‘offensive and derogatory’ language

Channel 4 has given another beloved comedy a trigger warning for ‘offensive and derogatory’ language.

Sitcom The IT Crowd first aired back in 2006 and follows tech geeks Roy and Moss, alongside supervisor Jen and a team of IT support workers. 

The IT Crowd stars Richard Ayoade, Chris O’Dowd and Katherine Parkinson amongst others.

The BAFTA awarding-winning comedy stretches across four series and has been highly praised by fans, with an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, two episodes from The IT Crowd come with warnings to viewers from Channel 4 over their contents.

Episode two of the first series, which sees the characters struggle with their office on fire, has guidance that reads, ‘This episode was made in 2006 and contains strong, offensive/ derogatory language and adult humour.

‘This programme isn’t suitable for younger viewers.’ 

While the first episode of the second series comes with another warning that reads, ‘Adult humour. This episode was made in 2007 and contains crude gay stereotypes which some viewers may find offensive.

The instalment sees Roy ᴀssume that a romantic interest of Jen’s was gay because he wanted to borrow a copy of Heat magazine. Maurice goes on to agree with him.

Jen then sees a musical with her date, along with Maurice and Roy. 

MailOnline has approached Channel 4 for comment.

It comes as Channel 4 hit another iconic sitcom Father Ted with a trigger warning.

The beloved series was given the disclaimer on the channel’s streaming service All4, with the 1998 episode Are You Right There, Father Ted sparking fears it could upset viewers due to its language and racial impersonations.

The episode features a sequence where Ted, played by Dermot Morgan appears to mock the Chinese by wearing a lampshade on his head.

Later in the episode, he appears to look like Adolf Hitler thanks to an unfortunately-placed mark and some dramatic hand gestures, and the mix-up leads Ted to spend the rest of the episode convincing the island he was not ‘a bit of a racist’.

The plot point has led Channel 4 bosses to place a trigger warning on the episode, which reads: ‘This episode was made in 1998 and contains language and racial impersonation which some viewers may find offensive.’

The series originally aired on Channel 4 for three series from 1995 to 1998.
