Kelly Ripa talks finding evidence of life after death following family tragedy

Kelly Ripa gave an update on how she is coping with the loss of her beloved Shih Tzu, Chewie, who died, earlier this month, at the age of 17.

On Wednesday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the talk show host, 54, and her husband, Mark Consuelos, 53, reflected on how their late pup had a ‘burst of energy’ ahead of his tragic pᴀssing.

The topic came up as the couple were discussing a recent New York Post article about a brainwave pattern known as Gamma synchrony.

‘A spike in the end of life brain activity could be evidence of the soul leaving the body, experts say,’ Consuelos told his wife and viewers as he read the story aloud.

He continued: ‘A flare of energy in the brain of a dying patient who had no blood pressure or heart rate could be evidence that the soul leaves the body after death, according to an expert. Isn’t that wild?’

Per the article, Stuart Hameroff, an anesthesiologist and professor of anesthesiology and psychology, brainwave patterns linked to ‘conscious thought, awareness and perception’ can be seen on an EEG and last up to ’30 to 90 seconds’ after a patient is clinically ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

‘I mean, that is wild … Wow … I don’t know what to think about that,’ Ripa marveled.

The mother-of-three went on to recall how ‘right before Chewie took her final breath’ that she ‘got a little burst of energy.’

‘Do you remember? And we were like, “Oh my gosh, everything’s going to be okay.” There was a moment where we really thought, “Okay, whatever she was going through for the past few weeks, it’s over now,”‘ she noted. ‘But it was just like, uh, I think it was that. It was exactly that. She got this burst of energy, maybe.’

Last week, Ripa got emotional as she and Consuelos announced Chewie’s death during a live segment of the show.

Mark shared the news at the top of the program, revealing that Chewie’s health had quickly declined and that she had stopped eating and become ‘extremely dehydrated.’

While Kelly tried to hold it together, she then covered her eyes with her hands before wiping away her tears.

Eventually, she managed to say: ‘I’m really sorry. I thought I got it all out, guys. I really thought I got it all out, and I apologize because I did not.

‘This is not how I wanted this to go down. God, she gave us so much.’

Kelly, who also shares four-year-old dog Lena and children Michael Consuelos, 27, Lola Consuelos, 23, and Joaquin Consuelos, 21, with Mark, continued: ‘We’re filled with graтιтude for this dog. I apologize, I’m so sorry. She gave us so much.

‘As each one of our kids left for college and then moved out on their own, Chewie remained right there like our steadfast companion.’

Kelly went on to say that Chewie ‘was so special and she was such a good girl.’

‘She was very much like a cat, you know, in a lot of ways,’ she added. ‘She pet you when she wanted affection.

‘She never let us kiss her face. She was very precious about her face. She was not that dog.

‘And, after she pᴀssed away last night, I kissed her a thousand times on the face, I kissed her nose.

‘I’d never kissed her nose before. And I know that she was like, somewhere in dog heaven, p**sed! But, I didn’t care because it was just so nice to have that.’

Viewers were equally moved by the scenes and reached out to Kelly on her Instagram page to offer their condolences.

One said: ‘Watching you now and crying! Don’t apologize! Chewie is part of your family! I went through it too. It’s been seven months and I’m still missing mine! You were always talking about both your dogs! Chewie had a great life! I’m so sorry for your loss.’

Another penned: ‘I cried with you while you guys were talking about Chewie, felt like I knew the pup well from how you spoke so lovingly of her.

‘I’m so very sorry for your loss, losing a beloved pet is a member of your family and there was no need for you to apologize, we all felt horribly for you. She’s resting in peace now looking down on you. God Bless you all.’

‘I’m watching the show and crying about the loss of Chewie!’ a third wrote. ‘They are your fur babies and bring us so much joy. Grieve as much as you need to. I will be praying for you and your family!’

A fourth added: ‘I knew the moment you walked out today what had happened. So very sorry for your loss. Do not apologize for being upset. She will always be a part of your family. We dog owners understand.’
