Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon shared a duet to open the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special on Sunday evening in New York City.
The 25-year-old pop star and 83-year-old Simon & Garfunkel icon performed an acoustic rendition of the group’s 1966 tune Homeward Bound.
Simon noted at the beginning of their set that he first appeared on the long-running comedy series during season two in 1976 to sing the song with George Harrison.
Carpenter then charmingly riffed that neither she nor her parents had been born at that time.
‘Well, I’m glad they’ll get the chance to hear it tonight,’ Simon replied before the Espresso hitmaker agreed, ‘Me too!’

Sabrina made her SNL debut last May while Paul has earned honorary Five-Timers Club member status following his various appearances over four decades.
He officially hosted a total of four times — in 1975, 1976, 1986 and 1987.

Additionally, he has taken the stage as a musical guest more than a dozen times, plus he has made six cameos, including a contribution to the show’s 100th episode in 1980.
His last appearance was in 2018, during which he performed the song Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Simon also has a special connection to the sketch show through his close friendship with SNL creator Lorne Michaels, 80.
According to a report from Vulture, Paul volunteered to host the show’s inaugural episode but Michaels declined, saying he wanted to ‘work out the kinks on the first show.’
The renowned musician went on to play host and musical guest on the second episode in 1975. He was joined by fellow music artists Randy Newman and Phoebe Snow.
Then, during the next season, he made a return to hosting duties, dressing in costume as a turkey in honor of Thanksgiving.

For the special occasion, the singer-songwriter dazzled in a stone-covered, ɴuᴅᴇ-toned, off-the-shoulder ensemble
And he notably sang The Boxer with New York City firemen and police officers accompanying him on stage during the September 29, 2001 episode, which was in tribute to victims and survivors of the September 11 attacks.
Less than one year ago Sabrina brought her talents to the beloved late-night show for the first time, performing her hits Espresso, Feather and Nonsense.
Following the successful gig, she referenced her Espresso song lyrics as she wrote in an Instagram caption: ‘Literally working late cuz I’m a singer @nbcsnl. Thank you for having us. I’m sooooo not chill about it and never will be.’
Also during Sunday night’s 50th anniversary show, the songstress appeared in a comedy sketch with Marcello Hernández, who previously joined her on stage in Los Angeles during her Short n’ Sweet tour for a reworked SNL spoof.
