On Saturday afternoon, the 36-year-old Truth Hurts singer shared a clip of herself via X (formerly Twitter) that resembled Lily-Rose Depp’s character from HBO’s The Idol.

In the new clip — with a high energy flute track playing in the background — the GRAMMY winner showcased a wide range of emotions and facial expressions as she transitioned from weeping hysterically to rhythmically laughing.

‘Everything was so much simpler #LIRL,’ Lizzo captioned her post, which garnered mixed reviews. And a note signaling a February 28 release date was placed at the end.

The clip served as a teaser, as the star — born Melissa Viviane Jefferson — is beginning to usher in and launch a new musical era ahead of her what some speculate could be a new album from the popstar.

But the similarities between the clips of Johnny Depp’s 25-year-old daughter and the About Damn Time singer were too uncanny, some followers pointed out in the comments section.

One X user by the handle of @americanreqiuem added a GIF of Lily Rose’s expression and emotion shoot from HBO’s The Idol opening scene and wrote, ‘you wanna be lily rose depp so bad.’

Another parody account quipped, ‘lily rose depp nachos,’ adding the same scene from the famous series which was produced by The Weeknd.

‘She think this euphoria,’ another user chimed in, referencing another hit HBO show.

Another user took a jab at Lizzo’s acting skills, questioning, ‘Is you tryna go into acting? Genuine question.’

Just yesterday, the star said that she was saying ‘bye b**ch’ to her Special era after dropping the album in July of 2022. While the record was met with polarized opinions, Special was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in 2023.

And in bold red spray paint, the star wrote the words ‘Bye B**ch’ on the record — which is now her profile image across her social media pages, further fueling loudening rumors that a new project from the multihyphenate is on the way. 

She ended the clip by turning to the camera and reiterating the striking phase while letting out a deep, menacing laugh.

During a Twitch stream later in the day, the vocalist confirmed that a new project was indeed in the works and even teased at what her persona would evolve into. She emphasized that her ‘new era has begun today.’

She said in the live stream, ‘I want to introduce to you guys, the newest piece of content from the new era. I’ve been working on new music for the last two years. I took my time and I did it right. The new era has begun today, right now, with you, my chat.’

Lizzo also left her fans on the edge of their seats, inferring that the release could be ‘new music or new album.’

‘It’s one and the same, babes. I want to give it to you to interpret and make your own. It encapsulates the heart of all the music I’ve been writing, and I truly am coming to gag,’ she added, generating buzz for her new project.

This comes nearly a year after the star allegedly quit the music industry after saying she’s ‘tired of ‘being dragged by everyone’ and criticism over her looks.
