Emma Watson makes surprise appearance at NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in rare public outing

Emma Watson made a surprise appearance at the 2025 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Oakland, California on Friday.

The Harry Potter actress, 34 – who is currently studying for her Masters degree at Oxford University – could be seen having a blast in a TikTok video uploaded to ESPN’s main account on Valentine’s Day.

In the short clip, the star could be seen sporting a short-sleeved, black cropped shirt as well as a pair of black pants.

The star’s locks were parted in the middle, and naturally flowed down past her shoulders.

Watson flashed a cheerful smile as she gave a friendly wave and a blew kiss towards a fan nearby.

She also briefly mingled with EDM musician, Tucker Halpern, who competed in the star-studded match against Noah Kahan and Pablo Schreiber.

Watson’s rare public outing this week comes as she is focused on working towards her Masters degree in creative writing at Oxford University in England.

She revealed her plan to go back to school during an interview with the Financial Times back in spring 2023.

Emma decided to pursue her Master’s after she began writing poetry and essays during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The star has also taken a step back from acting, with her last big role on the big screen being Little Women (2019), per her official IMDB page.

‘I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest,’ Watson expressed to the outlet at the time. ‘I think I felt a bit caged.’

‘The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over. To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, “How does this align with your viewpoint?”‘

The actress explained, ‘It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn’t get to be involved in the process.’

‘I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating, because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say…’

Watson – who wrote and directed an ad campaign for Prada in 2022 – also shared if she would ever step back into acting.

‘Yes, absolutely,’ she expressed. ‘But I’m happy to sit and wait for the next right thing. I love what I do.;

‘It’s finding a way to do it where I don’t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don’t want to switch into robot mode any more…’

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower actress also discussed her decision to focus on her education during an interview with British Vogue in late 2023.

‘I’m just so glad that I [took a break from acting] because I have this feeling of having my own voice and creative space and sovereignty in some way that I don’t think I did before – more autonomy.’

‘I’m so glad that I allowed things to be messy for a minute and to really allow myself to not know [what’s next], because the knowing that I’ve come to, I wouldn’t trade that for anything.’

Watson has also stepped into the business sector and launched her own gin company called Renais in 2023 with her brother Alex.

‘Ems and I are very close. We’re hugely supportive of each other, mostly I try to give her reasons to laugh.’

He added, ‘I think we were both looking for a new challenge and thought we’d make a great team, and here we are.’

‘There’s a deep level of trust and understanding that goes on [building a brand with family]. With that comes a level of stability which is great.’

Alex continued, ‘On the flip side, we’re still brother and sister and are more than capable of pushing each other’s ʙuттons.’

‘Working with a family member is great – although you have to fight for the space to keep your relationships outside of business which is the challenge.’
