BBC viewers brand Michael McIntyre’s Big Show ‘rubbish’ after comedian makes ‘sickly’ joke mocking boxer Tony Bellew for trying to save money

BBC viewers have branded Michael McIntyre’s Big Show ‘rubbish’ after the comedian made a ‘sickly’ joke mocking boxer Tony Bellew for trying to save money.

The prime time programme invites celebrities to share insights into their personal and professional lives in between performances from a range of comedians and musicians.

One segment, тιтled Send To All, involves Michael, 48, taking a famous person’s phone and taking a good look at their messages, notes and other apps before causing mischief with some texts to contacts on the device.

In the latest edition, boxer Tony was in the H๏τ seat, handing his mobile over to the comedian in front of an amused audience.

The fighter, 42, won a world тιтle in the sport and came out on top in 30 bouts, losing just three, but Michael showed no fear in browsing his phone.

Among his discoveries were a series of money-saving apps, including for Lidl and Toby Carvery, which the entertainer proceeded to laugh at before Tony’s wife Rachael branded him ‘тιԍнт’ despite his riches.

But the joke did not go down well among the watching audience, with fans of the show taking to social media to express their disappointment at the segment.

One unhappy viewer wrote on X: ‘Turned #bigshow off. So grating. But it feels a bit sickly to be laughing at people for using loyalty apps (even though celebs can afford not to) when regular people are struggling.’

Another added: ‘Is this supposed to be entertaining??’

A third said: ‘What? Are the audience actually laughing at someone who likes to spend carefully, and actively looks for bargains? In this economy?’

Another posted: ‘Tony is going to hate Michael after this, haha.’

And one fuming fan wrote: ‘This is rubbish.’

Last week, Miranda Hart was left shocked when she was reunited with her son from Call The Midwife on Michael McIntyre’s show.

The comedian played Camilla ‘Chummy’ Noakes in the BBC period drama and had a child on the show called Fred Noakes.

Miranda, 52, met the youngster who played Fred as a baby on the Big Show but the familiar face, who was played by Liam Kiff, has grown considerably since his debut on the popular programme and is now a young boy.

It took a moment for the comic to realise who Liam was when Michael brought him on stage.

In the video, Miranda can be seen sat in a gallery and said: ‘Do you know what the first thing that’s come to mind is? And this may be really weird if it’s right, and also really weird if it’s wrong, you weren’t a baby in Call The Midwife?’

The crowd at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London erupted into a cheer and Miranda leapt up with her hands over her mouth in shock.

Michael asked: ‘Which baby?’

To which the comedian responded with: ‘Oh you weren’t Chummy’s breach birth…’

Before she exclaimed: ‘Not my baby?!’

Michael confirmed, ‘It’s your baby’ while Liam looked up at Miranda and smiled.

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
