Amy Schumer’s latest movie Kinda Pregnant has been swamped with negative reviews from viewers on social media.

The comedy, which debuted on Netflix on Wednesday, received a bevy of pans on X (formerly Twitter) from its earliest viewers.

The scathing reactions included plenty of pans for its star Schumer, 43, who also co-wrote the film.

The comedian and actress — who donned a pink caped gown at the Kinda Pregnant premiere in New York City on Monday — stars in the film as Lainy Newton, a woman who begins wearing a fake pregnant belly in a fit of jealously brought on by her friend’s new pregnancy. 

But her prank, which attracts plenty of admiration and special treatment from strangers, threatens to backfire when she meets the man of her dreams while still pretending to be pregnant.

In addition to co-writing Kinda Pregnant with Julie Paiva, Schumer produced the film alongside Adam Sandler.

One viewer blasted the movie as ‘so funny, it’s like watching a documentary on paint drying.’

They added, ‘Critics are saying it’s groundbreaking… because it’s the first time laughter was replaced by existential dread.’

Another viewer was even more direct in their criticism.

‘Kinda pregnant is the worst film I’ve ever watched in my entire life,’ they declared.

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart even managed to catch a stray amid all the pans.

‘Kinda Pregnant isn’t off to a great start,’ one user wrote. ‘Amy Schumer is Kevin Hart funny, as in, not funny.’ 

Another person poked fun at the absurd plot of the film while also singling out a ridiculous reaction. 

The best review I’ve seen of that terrible movie Kinda Pregnant is someone saying, “It’s yet another story of someone pretending to be pregnant so I get that it’s relatable 🤨.’

A more measured post described Kinda Pregnant as a ‘kinda disappointing Netflix film,’ while singling out its ‘unfunny dialogue and characterization.’

‘Amy Schumer’s presence is kinda failing, I guess,’ the amateur reviewer continued,’ before declaring, ‘This is not a good start to this month of love.’

Another fan called the movie ‘terrible’ and complained that it featured the ‘same old Amy Schumer schtick.’

They charitably added that ‘the acting is fine from the supporting cast,’ but decided their impact was ‘nowhere near enough to save this movie.’

One user posted a gif of the late film critic Roger Ebert wagging his finger and noted that Kinda Pregnant was ‘not screened for critics.’

The decision to avoid screening films for critics is commonly regarded by reviewers and industry analysts as a sign that the film’s distributor ᴀssume it will receive disappointing reviews.

The practice is intended to ensure that at least some curious viewers will watch the film before reading potentially negative reviews that could diminish their interest.

The move seems to have been at least partially successful, as Rotten Tomatoes didn’t yet have enough reviews registered to determine a score for Kinda Pregnant as of Wednesday evening, though six out of the eight registered reviews were negative.

Another user who confessed to being a fan posted a gif of a woman crying and dabbing at her face.

‘Trying not to rewatch kinda pregnant already omg,’ they confessed.
