Frontman of iconic 90s band rushed to hospital on a stretcher after sustaining nasty injury during live show

The frontman of an iconic 90s band has been rushed to hospital after he suffered a nasty injury during a live gig.

Travis star Fran Healy got wheeled out of the American venue in Seattle, Washington, on a stretcher after their show concluded on Monday evening.

The Scotish singer, 51, thought he had broken his ankle as it twisted ‘back to front’ as he was waving to the crowd while stepping off stage.

However, it was later confirmed it was just a ‘really gnarly sprain,’ and Fran was okay after being seen by medical professionals.

He took to the band’s Instagram Story on Tuesday to ease the worries of fans who had seen him be rushed out of the gig, and exlpain what had happened.

Filming from his bed, he told the camera: ‘It’s Fran here. If anyone saw me being wheeled out of the venue last night on a gurney and being put into an ambulance it’s because I seriously twisted my ankle stepping off stage.

‘As I was waving goodbye to everyone it sort of twisted it around back to front. We thought it was broken and went to hospital.’

He added: ‘Thankfully it’s just a really, really gnarly sprain and I’ve got one of these mᴀssive big space shoes now so when you turn up to Salt Lake City you can all laugh at that.

‘The show must go on. We’ll see you there, we’ll see you on the rest of the tour. I’m fine, I’m slightly dizzy just now because I’m on some painkillers but apart from that, it’s all good.’

He ended the clip by saying: ‘Oh yeah, and I’m watching Antiques Roadshow. Bye!’

The band are currently on their Raze The Bar North American Tour, which began in January, and are set to take to the stage again at Summit in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday.

In December, Fran shocked local pub-goers as he performed an impressive impromptu rendition of one of his band’s biggest hits.

The musician delighted Christmas revellers as he took to the stage at The Horseshoe Bar in Glasgow to give a captivating performance of his band’s classic Why Does It Always Rain On Me?

During the karaoke session, punters could be heard singing along to the popular 1999 hit as Fran, who sported his bright red-dyed hair and glᴀsses, interacted with the crowd.

The star also took to X, formerly Twitter, to post the video clip captioning it with: ‘When in the Horseshoe Bar after 9pm… and they put your song on…’

It came on the eve of the band’s performance at the Hydro on Saturday, December 21, as part of their tour.

Travis shared a clip to their Instagram along with the caption: “When you’re having a pint in the @horseshoe_glasgow after 9pm and your song comes on…See you all at the Hydro tonight for the LAST SHOW OF THE YEAR!!!! COME ONNNNN!!! BRING YER SANTA HATS”.

And Travis looks worlds away from his appearance during the band’s heyday.

Having been known for his mohawk and baker boy caps back in the day, the star has replaced his look with bright orange hair and statement glᴀsses to coincide with the band’s release of new music and comeback to the scene last year.

Fans of the group – who have two Brit Awards and have sold over 10m records – wouldn’t be blamed for not picking Fran with his new look.

Travis has continued to make music and sell records since their heyday – with their recent album L.A. Times released on July 12 2024.
