The early seasons of Love Island were renowned for their raucous smoking areas, where a relaxing cigarette would often provide the spark for a heated argument.
But things have since changed, with the show’s singletons now required to disclose their smoking – or, more commonly, vaping – habits ahead of time so they can be herded off to a discreet zone away from the cameras.
All Stars contestants Olivia Hawkins and Marcel Somerville revealed on Kiss Fresh that it is prohibited to pick up a penchance for nicotine during one’s time in the villa so many lie about it in a bid to be allowed a short break from the ‘madness’.
Olivia, 29, who exited the show with Marcel last week, said: ‘With the vaping, if you don’t declare it beforehand, you will not be allowed a vape.
‘So even if you are feeling a bit stressed you can’t say, “can I have a vape”, because it will seem like you’ve taking up vaping from the show.’
Marcel interjected: ‘Which a lot of people probably would.
Love Island stars are required to disclose their smoking – or, more commonly, vaping – habits ahead of time so they can be herded off to a discreet zone, it has been revealed
Contestants such as Luca Bish can only indulge in a vape away from the cameras
‘To be fair, I feel like everyone said that they vaped just so they could have five minutes out of the villa just to like have a little detox and a little break from everything and then head back into the madness.’
Olivia also named the one person still competing in this year’s edition who does not vape.
She said: ‘You want me to tell you who vapes again? Let’s go.
‘Not me, because I’m an angel. You vape [points to Marcel].
‘I think everyone vapes, pretty much everyone. Apart from Ekin-Su [Culculoglu].’
Marcel, 39, added: ‘To be fair, everyone apart from Olivia had a vape.’
The draconian rules are a sharp contrast from the first few series after the show’s relaunch in 2015 which involved many deep conversations had over a cigarette.
Marcel himself was often pictured puffing away during his appearance on the third season of the programme in 2017.

A year later, researchers warned that the popular series may have inadvertently encouraged thousands of youngsters to start smoking.
An analysis of 1,001 minutes of content revealed that tobacco imagery occurred in 204 of them, totalling 20 per cent of the time.
Some 66 of the intervals involved cigarette smoking by one contestant, and 10 of them had several people smoking at one time.
More than half of the complaints made about the show to Ofcom that summer were about smoking rather than scenes of a Sєxual nature, the regulator revealed.
From 2018, contestants were banned from smoking or vaping on screen and even had to exit the villa one by one to avoid social smoking or significant plotlines developing while the cameras were off them.
On Monday, Ron Hall said his goodbyes to the All Stars villa after failing to find a connection but his farewell was miles apart from Scott Thomas’s emotional exit just 24-hours earlier.
After Ron told Luca Bish, 25, his decision he informed the villa and was told he’d be missed and swiftly waved off, while Scott was tearfully begged to stay.
Ron was initially paired up with Kaz Crossley, who soon had her head turned by newcomer Montel McKenzie.

He was then ‘stolen’ by bombshell Harriett Blackmore, before later admitting that he didn’t fancy her.
The most recently recoupling saw Ron pick new girl Danielle Sellers, who had previously picked Curtis Pritchard after they formed a connection.
However, in a big twist amid their break-up, Curtis chose to stick by Ekin-Su, leaving Ron with no choice but to pick Danielle.
It comes after Scott, 36, announced he was leaving the villa and going home during Sunday night’s episode, following an explosive row with Elma Pazar and Tina Stinnes.
In a dramatic move that has left the villa in shock, Scott packed his bags and left the ITV show after deciding it ‘wasn’t for him’ and struggling to find a genuine connection with Tina and axed islander India Reynolds.
Pulling Luca Bish over to the fire pit first he said: ‘I just wanted to let you know first.
‘I can’t force connections and I feel like I’ve come here and done everything I wanted to do. I just have to be true to myself.’
Telling the rest of the islanders, he said: ‘I don’t want this to be sad guys because I’ve had the best time ever but I’ve made the decision to leave.
Fans were left cringing after claiming the villa residents were not fazed to see Ron Hall quit the show

‘I’ve had the best time ever. Every single one of you is amazing.
The hunk, who first appeared on series two, was in a couple with Tina, 29, but after recently having doubts, Scott called time on the relationship.
Elma locked horns with Scott after he called things off with Tina, admitting he should ‘leave the villa’ and ‘go’ because ‘nothing was here for him’.
Earlier in the week, Elma and Luca Bish were given the tough decision to save Tina for Scott meaning Kaz Crossley, Naz Majeed and Montel Mckenzie were sent packing.
