Dancing On Ice star Chris Taylor has revealed he was involved in a car accident just hours after making his debut on the ITV skating show. 

The former Love Island contestant received an impressive 24 points after skating to Hall & Oates classic You Make My Dreams with professional figure skater Vanessa Bauer on January 12. 

But his participation in the long-running show was compromised after he pranged his car the following day. 

He told The Mirror: ‘There was already a few cars on the side of the road who had pranged each other and they were in a bit of a kerfuffle, and I thought, I’m just gonna get out of your way. But I forgot to look and a guy came in on the right hand side. 

Fortunately for Chris, who also made an unlikely appearance alongside Margot Robbie in Hollywood blockbuster Barbie, the driver recognised him.  

He recalled: ‘The guy got out and said “you’re Chris.” It ended up being a really nice conversation and he said “you skated really well yesterday”.

‘Anyway we just sorted it out between us and I backhanded him some cash to save going through the insurance. Not actually sure if I should say that or not! Is it allowed?’

The TV personality remains on the show as it enters its fifth week, but he admits to having no idea why people are voting for him. 

He said: ‘I don’t know, I don’t actually know what people vote on. If you look at who went in the first two weeks, Ferne McCann and Chelsee Healey, I would say more of the more well known people. 

‘Do people vote because they like an outfit, because the persons fit, because they skate well? I don’t know, I am just hanging on like a thread.’ 

Professional skating partner Vanessa has since withdrawn from the compeтιтion after tearing ligaments in her leg while rehearsing for last Sunday’s show. 

With the German skater absent, Chris was hastily partnered with Robin Johnstone for his latest ice routine, performed to the Pokémon Theme on February 2. 

But the performance was overshadowed after the new partnership lost their footing and tumbled onto the ice before regaining their composure and completing the routine. 

Sharing the news of her injury in an Instagram video, Vanessa said: ‘I’m here today with rather upsetting news. I am unfortunately not going to be able to continue on Dancing on Ice with Chris.

‘That’s really upsetting for me. I have trained Chris since October last year and it is always such an amazing achievement for myself to see someone else progress so much in a skill they’ve never done before. 

‘So it’s been really rewarding for me to watch this whole journey for Chris [and] the way he’s got better week since October and also since the live shows started.’

She added: ‘I unfortunately had a little accident backstage last week on Dancing on Ice just before the live show on Sunday.

‘And I didn’t realise how bad it was then, but we did an MRI and it turned out that I have a completely torn ligament, grade three sprain injury and a major grade two sprain injury.

‘I shouldn’t be skating on an injury like that and so I’m taking all of the advice from the medical professionals here, I am in very good hands.’

With the German skater absent, Chris was hastily partnered with Robin Johnstone for his Pokemon-themed routine on February 2, but the pair lost their footing on the ice  

Revealing she would be undergoing rehab for her injury, Vanessa added: ‘My pain threshold, I don’t trust it, I have been skating this whole week with a lot of pain but I just didn’t realise that it was such a significant injury so I didn’t voice my pain.

‘It just goes to show that you should listen to your body and try to tune into your body a lot.

‘I don’t want this injury that is already bad to get even worse and so the one sensible decision is to step away, do rehab, focus on my health – I guess mental health as well – because it’s really bad that I have to leave.

‘But I’m excited to get better and to get back to skating properly every single day.’
