Professor Green reveals he ‘cried so many happy tears’ after scans showed their son ‘dancing in the womb’ after his partner was wrongly told she had miscarried

Professor Green has revealed he ‘never cried so many happy tears’ after his partner was told she miscarried – only to then be told it was a misdiagnosis.

The rapper – whose real name is Stephen Manderson – was devastated when his partner Karima McAdams was told she’d miscarried months into her pregnancy during the pandemic.

Speaking to Richard and Izzy Hammond on their podcast Who We Are Now, Professor Green, 41, said: ‘It’s the first time that I’ve discussed what happened.

‘We were told we miscarried during COVID. So, I was in the car park crying my eyes out, waiting for her to come out. I’ve had to leave my partner at the most distressing moment.’

The couple – who later welcomed a healthy baby called Slimane, now three, were told back then the heartbreaking news about halfway through Karima’s pregnancy.

He said: ‘This was after the fact, like, after the three months where you don’t tell anyone. This was like four and a half months, I think, in where it’s like, ‘You’re having a baby.

‘You realise at this point that you don’t just want a baby. You want that one, because you’ve already started to bond.’

Still processing the news, Professor Green recalled how the couple went home and ‘cried their eyes out,’ as they prepared to go back into hospital for a potential follow-up procedure, adding to their distress.

‘When people ask me what fatherhood was like, I only ever had one word answers – crazy, insane, mental – for ages,’ he said.

‘But it was tough. Obviously, we went home. We cried our eyes out. She had to go back in the next day to see if she needed a procedure.’

Returning to hospital the next day, the couple received the miracle news that Karima hadn’t miscarried after all, with scans showing that their baby was alive and well.

‘The little bugger was in the womb doing the Bogle!’ Professor Green said.

‘His arms are just going like that. And we were like… I’ve never cried so many happy tears in my life. He was fine!’

Having to deal with the agony of being told they had lost their child, Stephen explained Karima’s miscarriage was misdiagnosed, and instead she had actually lost two mucus plugs.

‘And he was just there. She lost two mucus plugs. I didn’t know what bloody mucus plug was,’ he said. ‘She lost two of them, one on the day she would end up having the child, which was also just a mental chain of events, it turned out.’

Fast-forward several months, and Karima gave birth to their baby boy.

‘We ended up in the hospital on the Monday… And he [the doctor] said, ‘Look, we’re going to deliver the baby anyway, because there isn’t much going on, we feel it might be safer,’ he said.

‘Karima went, ‘What would have happened if I didn’t come in?’ and he went, ‘Probably nothing.’ And as he said the ‘not-‘ in ‘nothing,’ her waters broke!’

Now blessed with a healthy little boy, the experience has made Professor Green philosophical about life and fatherhood.

‘Every day I look at him and realise – this sounds a bit hippy dippy – but every one of us is a f****** miracle,’ he said.

‘Like, genuinely, it’s not an easy process. And what the woman’s body goes through is the most beautiful and insane thing in the world.’

Professor Green and actress Karima were first linked in July 2019, after he quietly split from PR executive Milly Gattegno.

They were reportedly introduced through mutual friends and made their public debut at Glastonbury Festival.

In October 2021, the rapper asked Karima to marry him – seven months after they welcomed their first child.

They were reported to have split up in April 2024 but it appears they have reunited as Professor Green referred to her as his ‘partner’ during the interview.
