Cate Blanchett looked effortlessly chic at the premiere of her latest movie Rumours at the International Film Festival Rotterdam on Saturday.

The 55-year-old actress, who stars as Hilda Ortmann in the comedy-drama, wore a grey-red checked blazer featuring structured shoulder pads and a tailored fit. 

She paired it with a cream blouse that had flared cuffs, a red square print, and a black choker fastening at the collar. 

Completing her ensemble, Cate opted for dark blue denim jeans and embraced a natural look with minimal makeup. 

She was joined by festival director Vanja Kaludjercic and director Guy Maddin, 68, for several snaps ahead of the premiere. 

A synopsis for the movie reads: ‘Leaders of the world’s wealthiest democracies gather for the annual G7 summit to draft a provisional statement regarding a global crisis.’

‘They soon become spectacles of incompetence, contending with increasingly surreal obstacles as night falls in the misty woods and they realise they are suddenly alone.’

Later that evening, Cate slipped into a stylish red belted jacket and a navy-and-red striped shirt, where she met Japanese ambᴀssador Hiroshi Minami and filmmaker Koji Yanai ahead of the launch of the new Displacement Film Fund.

The fund, a collaboration between Cate and the festival, was created to support displaced filmmakers. 

Earlier this month Cate offered a rare insight into her relationship with motherhood as she posed for a stunning shoot with Harper’s Bazaar’s Spain.

The actress shares sons, Dashiell, 23, Roman, 20, and Ignatius, 16, with her husband of 27 years Andrew Upton, and they adopted daughter Edith in 2015.

Cate told the publication that despite her love and ‘adoration’ for her family she realises that being a mother is ‘not all that she is.’

She explained: ‘I love my children. Motherhood is a vital part of who I am, but it is not all that I am.’

‘I think there are many people who are a mother to communities in the workplace. It is equality, it is a sense of care, respect and nurturing.’

‘If we all developed a greater sense of motherhood, in the best possible way, men and women, the world would be a better place.’ 

Cate and Andrew currently reside at a £5million country estate near Crowborough, East SusSєx, and in 2020 they purchased a £1.6million holiday home in Cornwall.

During the interview, Cate also spoke about her role in the psychological thriller Disclaimer, an Apple TV+ series where she stars as a renowned journalist who is forced to confront her dark past. 

Speaking about the show, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination earlier this month, she said: ‘I knew from the beginning that it was going to be provocative and polarizing because it’s becoming increasingly clear that there are many wars in the world, but one that’s going on is the war of narratives, the battle for a singular truth and who gets to control it.’

‘And that’s very much what Alfonso Cuarón is playing with as a director and screenwriter. It’s been fascinating to watch the conversation around it.’
