Locals from UK town shocked as Hollywood legend pops into their chippy only weeks after losing his LA home

Locals from UK town shocked as Hollywood legend pops into their chippy only weeks after losing his LA home

Anthony Hopkins shocked locals on Wednesday as he was spotted tucking into fish and chips on a return to his home town, Port Talbot.

Workers at Steve’s Fish Bar in the south Wales industrial town saw a familiar face leaning over the counter at the chippy as they went about their shift.

It was none other than the Oscar-winning actor, 87, who headed back to his boyhood haunt after losing his home in the Los Angeles fires this month.

And while his character Hannibal Lecter was famously locked up behind bars and in a straitjacket for eating other humans, Anthony was more interested in devouring a traditional Taibach takeaway.

It is not confirmed whether the Silence Of The Lambs actor stayed around to guzzle the meal in the shop or whether he took the feast elsewhere, but he presumably washed it all down with a nice Chianti.

The shop’s owner posted on Facebook: ‘He’s back again for his fish and chips, can’t ask for a better advertisement.’

According to a recent menu from the establishment, Anthony could get a large fish and chips for around £10 which is still presumably a good deal more than what he would have paid when he was tucking into takeaways in the area in the 1950s.

The Father star’s heart-warming appearance in his home town comes after he lost his property in the Palisade fire in LA this month.

He recently shared a poignant message of support to those impacted by the catastrophic wildfires.

Posting to his 5.4million followers last week, he wrote: ‘As we all struggle to heal from the devastation of these fires, it’s important we remember that the only thing we take with us is the love we give.’

The actor, who purchased a stunning four-bedroom, five-bathroom home in the Pacific Palisades area for £4.8m in 2021, saw his property destroyed by the flames.

PH๏τos reveal the charred remains of the classic colonial home, with little more than a scorched fence standing as the only trace of what was once a beautiful house.

The purchase had been a fresh start for the Oscar-winning actor, who had just sold his long-time Malibu oceanfront place for £8.4m – more than double what he paid for it back in 2001.

Unfortunately, the recent tragic events are not the first time Anthony’s home has faced devastating flames.

Back in November 2018, his home narrowly escaped the Woolsey fire, which burned down his neighbor’s property.

Going even further back to 2000, the Remains Of The Day star lost his London home in a fire too, but fortunately, he was safe in Los Angeles at the time.

Earlier this month the Welsh actor put on a brave face for the star-studded Joy Awards in Saudi Arabia.

Dressed in a sharp black suit and a classic white ʙuттon-up shirt, he posed for pH๏τos alongside his wife Stella on the red carpet and even offered a friendly wave towards the crowd.

It followed on from a busy year professionally, amid a number of professional endeavors.

He provided the voice of Jimmy in the Zack Snyder film Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, which debuted on Netflix in April; and played the role of Vespasian on the 10-episode Peacock series Those About to Die, which debuted in July.
