Good Morning Britain sparks vicious parenting row as guest claims TEACHERS should potty train their classes – and viewers rage ‘it’s plain laziness!’

Good Morning Britain sparked a vicious parenting row after a guest claimed that teachers should be the ones to potty train their classes on Friday morning.

Hosts Kate Garraway, 57, and Robert Rinder, 46, explained that in a recent poll made by charity Kindred Squared, it has been pointed out that a surprising 25% of children aren’t toilet trained at school.

The pair welcomed former teacher David Lewis and rapping science teacher Matt Green to the studio to debate what the solution is.

Guest David said: ‘I will say that with parents being as busy as they are now, I wonder if it’s an inevitable part of modern life that parents do not have the time to do when parents are working so hard.

‘That potentially not all potty training should be done.

‘I’m not here to say that kids should be going to school doing whatever they want, not toilet trained even remotely.

‘It’s a hangover of people being so busy these days.’

Kate pointed out: ‘You’re saying it’s the reality of parenting these days? There are some youngsters who have genuine medical issues.’

He continued: ‘My point alone, it feels like an inevitable part of people not having enough time.

‘I will say this, that in makeup 10 minutes ago, the ladies there were appalled of my opinion.’

Kate told him: ‘Everyone is surprised. Do you accept that we live in a world where parents are busy, under pressure. There has been a huge increase since Covid, patterns have changed.’

She then asked Matt what she thought, to which he replied: ‘I’d say we’re busier. Parents are always going to be time-stretched.

‘We’ve got our key things that we need to do for our kids – key things we’ve got to look after them. Toilet training is one of them.

‘I’m a parent of three kids, we made sure all our kids were toilet trained before we went to school.

‘This has been time-stretched, we both work full time.

‘We were growing a business at the time, I’m not saying that it’s not hard for parents, but we want to make sure our kids are prepared.

‘We don’t want them to feel isolated. It’s not a nice feeling wetting yourself and seeing your other friends okay.

‘From a teacher’s perspective, I’ve been a teacher in a school for 10 years and my wife was a nursery teacher.

‘If you’re taking time out of your day, instead of educating kids having to change nappies, when they could be doing it themselves.’

GMB viewers raged that it’s ‘plain laziness!’ to not potty train your children.

One fumed: ‘It’s ridiculous parents should be pottytraining their own kids. No one is under that amount of pressure it’s plain laziness.’

Another questioned: ‘A part of modern life? Not potty training your own child? What a ҒUCҜing cop out. Lazy sh*** parenting by useless gobs****s who don’t care about their children.’

‘If you don’t have time for a kid, why have one?’ a third wrote.

A fourth added: ‘Dear God what is this country coming to when parents are too lazy to potty train their own kids and expecting the teachers to do. What a disgrace they should be ashamed of themselves.’

A fifth tweeted: ‘If you can find time to lay down and make a kid… You can find time to potty train them when they’re here!!’

A sixth said: ‘It’s BC they’re lazy idiots teachers aren’t there to teach potty training.’

A seventh wrote: ‘#gmb No it’s not the teacher’s job to potty train children. It’s 100% the parent’s job. Saying ‘parent’s are so busy’ is an absolute cop out. If they haven’t got the ‘time’ to do the basics, don’t have children! Nobody takes accountability anymore. It’s lazy parenting.’

An eight simply said: ‘No it’s not a teacher’s job to potty train your kid.’

Meanwhile a ninth tweeted: ‘More parents are avoiding responsibility. In the ’90s, their folks were told to coddle their kids, shield them from hardship, and follow endless advice. Now, those kids are parents ill equipped, enтιтled, and expecting the world to cater to them and solve their problems.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 from 6am and is available to stream on ITVX.
