David Beckham spent nearly a year persuading his reluctant wife Victoria to make a documentary of her own for Netflix – with Posh telling him she simply was ‘too busy’ to let the cameras in.

A source said this week: ‘Victoria has a day job with her fashion and beauty business, whereas David has professional commitments but they aren’t on the same daily scale. The idea came up seriously as soon as David’s docuseries came out and was such a big hit.

‘But she spent a long time saying no to everyone. It was a no from October 2023 until August 2024. Netflix did their best to persuade her but in the end it was all down to David.

‘He was the one who finally got her to say yes.’

The yes came at the 11th hour because the main narrative of the documentary, according to my source, is her struggles and nerves in the lead up to her fashion show in Paris in September last year.

In early footage from the show, shared at a Netflix event on Wednesday night, she is seen horrified after a downpour threatens to wreck the outdoor catwalk under a marquee in the Chateau de Bagatelle in Paris.

In another clip, she is filmed in the back of a car reflecting that she hopes in making the documentary she will find out why she felt driven to launch her business when she ‘didn’t need to’ do so. She wryly observes: ‘I hope this will be like therapy.’

It can be revealed that the series, tentatively тιтled Victoria Beckham, started shooting in September last year and is expected to film until June, with a release before the end of 2025.

It can also be revealed that it will not feature sitdown talks with her children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. They figure in some scenes both at home and at the fashion show, but are not interviewed. Interviewees will include David – she was the star turn in his doco – plus fashion figures possibly including Vogue boss Anna Wintour, a long-time friend of the couple and supporter of Victoria and her fashion ambitions.

It’s not clear whether any of the Spice Girls will be interviewed about their former bandmate. Nothing has yet been filmed of them and there was some sorrow when she refused to join them in their reunion tour in 2019 and also declined all offers to reform for Glastonbury.

Sources say that Victoria has been filmed at work, at home, and even in the gym in the documentary which is being directed by Nadia Hallgren, who helmed the 2020 Michelle Obama documentary Becoming.

David Beckham’s company Studio 99 will produce it, with boss Nicola Howson one of the producers and Julia Nottingham, of Dorothy St Pictures, also on board.

I hear that Victoria is ‘all in’ on the project which is actually her fourth documentary. She was in ITV’s Victoria’s Secrets in 2000, Being Victoria Beckham in 2002, The Real Beckhams in 2003, and Victoria Beckham: Coming To America in 2007.

On TV last week, David said: ‘It wasn’t the easiest thing to get her to agree to but in my opinion she was the star of mine.’ He went on to describe his wife as ‘a very clever and hard-working lady’.

The show’s official synopsis runs: ‘Her Posh Spice days may be behind her, but today Beckham is on a journey to build a fashion empire – and now, fans will be able to see the story behind it all.’ It adds it will ‘tell the story of Victoria’s reinvention as a creative director of her own brand’.

Victoria founded her fashion label in 2008 and her skincare and beauty line in 2019.

Liam Payne will be shown judging singing hopefuls in a forthcoming Netflix show, Building The Band.

The talent contest was filmed in the summer of last year and, following the One Direction star’s death in October, it was not clear whether he might be edited out of the show or if its release would be delayed.

Building The Band, hosted by Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean, is listed as one of the streamer’s 2025 releases. Sources say that Payne is a ‘guest judge’ in some of the auditions, alongside main judge and mentor Nicole Scherzinger. It’s understood that Payne’s family are ‘in discussions’ about giving the go-ahead.

The show’s makers claim that it ‘brings together talented singers for a truly unique compeтιтion show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. The singers are in control as they seek to form bands in individual ‘booths’ without ever seeing each other.

‘All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit’.

The buzz out of the Sundance Film Festival in Utah this week concerns actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, who is ‘dazzling’ in a remake of the 1985 film Kiss Of The Spider Woman. 

The film is produced by Ben Affleck’s Artists Equity productions and will likely be the last time the two exes work together – their divorce has been settled by mediation and will be finalised in late February.

‘The truth is, when you talk about the importance of musicals, the reason that I even wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV when West Side Story would come on once a year, on Thanksgiving. 

‘I was just mesmerised. And I was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.’ ‘That was always my goal, and this is the first time that I actually got to do it.’

 

Thank goodness they don’t have swear jars at press conferences. Potty-mouthed Daisy May Cooper managed to use the F-word 36 times in less than 20 minutes while promoting her forthcoming comedy drama, Am I Being Unreasonable? 

Ironically, she explained she was told another, more offensive, word could only be used once during the series. ‘I said to my co-star Selin Hizli: ‘We’d better not waste it, then.’ ‘ The show is available on BBC iPlayer from Wednesday.

Manchester City defender Walker, 34, is currently on loan at AC Milan and Annie, 32, is planning to be with Kyle this weekend, when he is set to make his big debut on the pitch, taking their four children with her.

Sources say that Annie, pictured, decided 2025 should be a year which is more about her, and it’s her time to do what she wants, rather than it being all about the family.

 

Hilaria Baldwin’s very strong Spanish accent was a matter of great interest when it emerged that she had been born and raised in Boston and wasn’t in fact Spanish at all.

Early footage from the forthcoming reality TV show The Baldwins about her and actor husband Alec reveals that she’s no longer speaking like Manuel from Fawlty Towers.

It streams on Discovery+ from February 24.

Rock gods Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have had their ups and downs, and it can be revealed that the Led Zeppelin stars haven’t managed any togetherness in their forthcoming authorised documentary, Becoming Led Zeppelin.

The pair were interviewed separately for the film, about the origins of the group, and won’t be at the premiere screening. 

The film is out on Imax next Wednesday and Thursday and then in cinemas.

 

Batman’s Pattinson takes the Mickey for icy comedy

We will be seeing double and then some in the forthcoming film Mickey 17.

Batman star Robert Pattinson plays Mickeys one to 18 in the movie, a dark comedy in which his character volunteers to be an expendable on an ice planet.

Every time he dies, they print a new Mickey and upload his consciousness to a new clone, then Mickey 17 doesn’t die, but they have already printed Mickey 18.

It’s a pitch-black comedy by brilliant director Bong Joon-Ho, of Parasite fame, and was filmed in the UK. Pattinson and Joon-Ho, pictured, are currently in Korea to promote it.

The film premieres in Berlin next month and goes on general release in the UK on April 18.

 

Strictly star Wynne facing ‘crisis’

BBC colleagues fear for ‘vulnerable’ Wynne Evans after he was sacked from the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour, with one saying: ‘People are worried about what this could do to him.’

There is still a lot of affection from both dancers and celebs for Evans, 53, who agreed to step aside after he made a demeaning Sєxual remark about host Janette Manrara.

This followed ‘gropegate’ in October when he placed his wandering hand round the waist of dance partner Katya Jones during the live BBC show. It was said to be an ‘inside joke’ at the time, and Katya this week took to Instagram to ask for ‘compᴀssion’ towards the opera singer, best known for the Go Compare adverts.

I’m told that Evans, pictured, was warned by ‘multiple’ BBC executives last year about his jokes.

I understand that he was sent for media training to help him cope with the spotlight without making any further mis-steps. Yet months later he was caught on camera again.

A source said: ‘The belief is that what Wynne said should, or could, be seen in the context of a very bantery and quite adult atmosphere on the Strictly tour.

‘There are probably a lot of them who have made off-colour jokes between friends. The difference is that Wynne said that remark in front of the media.

‘People are concerned for him and worry that he is in a vulnerable state. People are worried about his mental health and this is all in the context of his brother dying so perhaps he is in a crisis of some sort. But at the same time, you can’t just keep on giving last chances. I don’t think that the BBC had a choice.’

In a statement Evans, who also has a show on BBC Radio Wales and appeared with Joanna Page on BBC One’s Wynne & Joanna: All At Sea this week, said: ‘I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.

‘I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.’

It also emerged that he split from his girlfriend Liz Brookes, 50, before the end of last year. In a previous interview he said he had endured suicidal thoughts and ‘very dark days’ after the break up of his marriage in 2016.

Wynne announced earlier this month his eldest brother Huw had died.

A spokesperson for Janette Manrara said she had not heard the lewd comment.
