Rock band splits after 13 years as lead singer pens cryptic note about ‘revelations around my bandmates’

The Nashville based rock trio Coin has called it quits after 13 years as a band.

In a message shared to the band’s Instagram account, frontman Chase Lawrence shared a cryptic message saying he can’t go on after some ‘revelations’ about his bandmates.

‘I have recently become aware of revelations around my bandmates and want to share some thoughts directly with all of you,’ Lawrence began. ‘I believe in accountability and doing what’s right.’

Earlier this month, Lawrence announced that the pop rock trio would be going on tour without drummer Ryan Winnen, writing that he left the group to focus on some ‘personal matters.’

Now Lawrence has also parted ways with guitarist Joe Memmel.

‘Three months ago, I made the decision to move forward without my drummer, and yesterday, I parted ways with my guitarist,’ Lawrence continued.

‘Their behaviors directly conflict with my values, and I am devastated for anyone who has been affected by these actions.’

Coin is best known for their catchy 2016 pop anthem Talk Too Much.

Lawrence did not specify what those behaviors are nor did he elaborate on how they conflicted with his values.

‘Creating a space for love & joy through music has always been my mission. Discovering that this space has been compromised by the actions of others is truly heartbreaking,’ he added.

He added: ‘Unfortunately, these developments have led me to the decision that COIN can no longer continue as a band.’

The pop trio formed in 2012 and was made up of Nashville-based musicians Chase, Ryan, and Joe.

They released four albums together performed at festivals like Bonnaroo over the years.

He apologized to his fans for ‘the disappointment this may bring,’ adding: ‘Your support has meant the world to me, and I owe it to you to be honest and decisive in addressing this situation.’

The band’s upcoming tour dates have been cancelled and Chase let fans know their tickets would be refunded.

Despite the end of Coin, he offered some hope to fans, saying that his musical journey is not over.

‘There’s a lot to figure out about the future, but I know I’m not done making music yet.’

Fans expressed their dismay and heartbreak in the comments section and in a Reddit thread.

‘Damn this sucks. But it’s always nice to see some moral integrity these days. Best of luck to Chase in the future!,’ a Reddit user wrote.

Another Reddit user revealed they had combed through the band’s main thread found what could be the reasons for the band’s demise.

‘Looked through the Coin reddit when i saw this earlier. They removed the drummer for [allegedly] being abusive towards his ex who came forward a few months ago. Then yesterday screensH๏τs of the guitarist came out where he [allegedly]sent an underage girl ɴuᴅᴇs.’

‘One month away from a concert I had VIP tickets to for my 27th birthday… My favorite band of 10 years. I’m so devastated and angry,’ another fan wrote.

‘Wow, casual listener and saw them a few times in Nashville over the years. Sad to hear about the dirtbags in the band, seems like the right decision as a result of that. Damn why can’t people be normal,’ someone else shared.

‘Really sad I never got to see COIN in person,’ someone on Instagram wrote. ‘But Chase, your music has meant a ton to me over the years. I will absolutely be paying attention to whatever is next, wishing you the best.’

Another added: ‘Coin breaking up was not on the 2025 bingo card. Thank you for the amazing vibes your music brought.’

‘I’m literally heartbroken,’ another comment shared. ‘Coin has been my favorite band for seven years, but i’m proud of the decision you made to stick to your morals. can’t wait to see what you do next chase.’
