Louis Tomlinson attended former One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik’s Los Angeles concert this week – as they proved that their feud had thawed. 

The 32-year-old singer gave a shout-out to his ‘old friend’ at his solo show at the Shrine Exposition Hall in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

It comes after Zayn’s relationship with his old bandmates became strained when he quit the band in March 2015.

He went on to say in the years that followed that the group grew ‘sick of each other’ and that he hadn’t stayed in touch with them much since leaving.

The band then put on a united front last year as they all attended Liam Payne funeral after his tragic death. 

Sending the crowd into a frenzy of screams at the gig on Wednesday, Zayn informed them: ‘Tonight’s something special. An old friend of mine is here for me tonight.’

The Pillowtalk hitmaker – who quit the chart-topping boy band in 2015, the year before they announced their indefinite hiatus – didn’t want to give away Louis’ location to avoid fans all rushing at once to try and meet him.

It comes after Zayn’s relationship with his old bandmates became strained when he quit the band in March 2015 (Zayn and Louis seen together in 2014) 

He added: ‘He’s hidden somewhere here.

‘I don’t want to give his location away, but Louis is here tonight.’

Zayn and Louis, 33, were last seen together when they attended late bandmate Liam Payne’s funeral in Buckinghamshire in November, along with 1D’s Harry Styles, 30, and Niall Horan, 31.

The tragic loss of Liam – who plummeted to his death, at the age of 31, in October 2024, after falling from a H๏τel balcony in Buenos Aires – meant Zayn’s debut solo tour was postponed so he could grieve his friend.

On the first night of his delayed Stairway to the Sky Tour at the O2 Academy in Leeds on November 23, the Dusk Till Dawn singer aired a visual tribute to Liam.

As Zayn’s song Stardust played, a blue background was displayed on the screen with a red heart and the words: ‘Liam Payne 1993 – 2024. Love you bro.’

This week, it was rumoured that the Night Changes hitmakers could be set to reunite at the BRIT Awards on March 1 at London’s The O2 arena in a salute to Liam.

A source told The Sun: ‘The tribute to Liam at this year’s awards show has caused a real buzz and speculation that the remaining One Direction bandmates could finally come back together again on stage. 

‘It would be an entirely fitting way to honour Liam and talks are already under way about how to make this segment of the BRITs unforgettable.’

Almost a year after leaving the boyband, Zayn admitted: ‘I think I always wanted to go, from like the first year, really.’

Throwing more shade he added: ‘I never really wanted to be there, like in the band. I just gave it a go because it was there at the time, and when I realised the direction we were going in – mind the pun – with the music, I instantly realised it wasn’t for me, because I realised I couldn’t put any input in.’

A couple of months later, One Direction went on an ‘extended hiatus’.

Then in 2018 Zayn made it clear he wasn’t friends with anyone in the band during an interview with GQ.

He said: ‘I didn’t really, like, make any friends from the band. I just didn’t do it. It’s not something that I’m afraid to say. I definitely have issues trusting people.’

In another interview with Vogue, Zayn confirmed: ‘I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you.

‘That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left. Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected.’

In July 2023 Zayn opened up on the ‘selfish’ reason he decided to quit One Direction during a candid interview.

He also admitted that the group grew ‘sick of each other’ after being together daily for five years, having first formed on X Factor in 2010.

Speaking to host Alex Cooper during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Zayn opened up about the moment he knew it was time to leave and detailed his desire to launch a solo career.

He said: ‘I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I knew for a minute there was a lot of politics, certain people didn’t want to sign contracts and I new something was happening so I was like I’ll just get ahead of the curb and get out of here, I think this is done.’

He went on: ‘I completely selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record. I jumped the gun and when it comes to my music I’m serious and compeтιтive and I wanted to be the first to do that.

‘I’m a pᴀssive dude, but when it comes to my music and my business, I’m serious about it and I’m compeтιтive, so I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing. That was the reason.

‘There was obviously underlying issues within our friendships too, we’d got sick of each other if I’m being completely honest.

‘We had been together nearly every day for five years. We were close and got to do crazy things together which no one else in the world will ever understand. I look back now in a much fonder light than when I first left. It just ran its course.’

Opening up on seeking guidance from his mother about leaving the band, he added: ‘I wasn’t afraid of what the world thought, first thing I wanted to do was ring my mum and be like “can I come home?” As soon as she said yeah I was like “Ok I’m done.”

‘I hadn’t told my mum before hand I hadn’t really thought about it. I just rang her like “do you have a bed for me?” but my dad was like “no stay with Simon”. I wasn’t there long until I went back to London for work.’
