Emotional Kate Ferdinand reveals she felt like her step children ‘didn’t love her’ after she gave birth to her son Cree

Kate Ferdinand has revealed that she felt like her husband Rio’s teenage kids ‘didn’t love her’ after she gave birth to her first child Cree.

The former TOWIE star, 33, was speaking on a new episode of Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast, Happy Mum Happy Baby on Tuesday when she opened up about her post natal experiences with her stepchildren.

Kate gave birth to son Cree in December 2020 and has since had a second child Shae with former footballer Rio, 46, last year.

Kate is also stepmother to Rio’s older children Lorenz, 18, Tate, 16, and Tia, 13, from his marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who tragically died in 2015.

In the candid podcast chat Kate spoke about feeling misunderstood by her teenage kids after giving birth.

She said of the time after her birth: ‘I was snappy. I think when you’re with just your husband and you’ve got the young kids, your husband knows kind of what goes on around birth, and that you’re going to have these crazy emotions and just let her get on with it.

‘Teenage kids don’t really, they haven’t experienced that yet, have they? And I just felt like no one cared about me and no one loved me.

‘And I just remember coming downstairs. I got a vivid thing of them all sitting on the sofa. They’re all sitting on the sofa, and I’m like, ‘none of you love me’.

‘And they were like… Just, you know, like teenagers. And I’m like, ‘you don’t care about me. You don’t love me. None of you want to see me upstairs’.

‘I was just going on one and they were just looking at me like, ‘is Kate okay?’ It’s like more judgment. You have like four people judging you now rather than one.

‘But I think for them as well, it’s a lot for them to take in. Like Kate’s had a baby and she’s gone cuckoo up there.’

It comes after last year Kate revealed if she and husband Rio want to have more children.

The television personality did a Q and A on Instagram where she was asked about if they were planning on adding to their blended family.

When asked: ‘Do you want anymore children?’ Kate replied: ‘The shop is shut. Five is more than enough for us’.

Kate also shared an insight into her post-partum exercise regime after having a planned caesarean for Shae’s birth.

The reality star showed off her incredible figure in an array of ʙικιɴιs earlier that month as the family jetted off on holiday.

When one fan asked how long she waited in her recovery until she started doing Pilates, Kate said: ‘6 weeks until I done any exercise.

‘I think this was actually eight weeks after the baby.

‘I started back on the mat and we took it back to basics and we are still now gradually building it back up.

‘You loose all strength so it really is a process that takes time. Be easy on yourself.’

It came after Kate admitted she was ‘worried’ about welcoming another child with husband Rio as it would shift the family dynamic.

She explained: 'Teenage kids don't really, they haven't experienced that yet, have they? And I just felt like no one cared about me and no one loved me'

‘It’s always a bit of a worry for everyone in the family, even me and Rio. It affects everyone, because a new baby in the house changes the dynamic but like anything in life, everyone just adapts. You get used to it and you find your space,’ Kate told The Mirror.

But Kate admitted she was struggling with feelings of mum guilt and puts pressure on herself to be ‘a great mum, wife, go to the gym, look and feel good’.

She said: ‘How do I spread myself across five children? How do I make sure I’m there for everyone and giving them all quality time?

‘I don’t all the time, obviously, because it’s impossible. I’m struggling with that a lot at the moment. Mum guilt is huge, but I suppose you just have to ride it out because you’re never going to be perfect.’
