Disney+ thriller Paradise hailed as the ‘best TV premiere in years’ as critics rave over ‘addictive and thrilling’ murder twists

New Disney+ thriller Paradise has been hailed as the ‘best TV premiere in years’.

Critics are raving over it’s ‘addictive and thrilling’ murder twists, with some branding it on par to the 2004 hit Lost.

The eight-part gripping series, which hit screens on Monday, is about a US President’s protection officer.

Paradise is an intriguing mystery about the ᴀssᴀssination of President Cal Bradford, played by James Marsden, and the ensuing investigation by his head of security Xavier Collins, played by Oscar-nominated actor Sterling K Brown.

The Independent writes: ‘Paradise is equal parts intriguing and thrilling – and, in news that will relieve prospective viewers, it also enjoys revealing answers.

‘The action-packed seventh instalment in particular packs a wallop and is an early contender for the best TV episode of 2025.’

‘Paradise may be the kind of show where the very premise is deemed a spoiler, but I was so delighted and genuinely surprised by the premiere’s final moments I’m happy to honor the embargo — viewers deserve this treat’, Variety reads.

Praising the starring cast, Heaven Horror credits James and Sterling for their exceptional performances.

The publication added: ‘I don’t know what I expected from this new production, but I was happy with what I got.

‘Of course, I am admittedly usually very happy with whatever creator Dan Fogelman comes up with, so I shouldn’t be surprised.’

Empire adds: ‘The mystery itself is equal parts ridiculous and ridiculously addictive, with enough twists, turns and steady reveals to keep you hooked despite yourself as the curtain gradually pulls back to reveal the murder itself is housed inside a much larger puzzle box.’

Creator Dan Fogelman and star-producer Sterling ‘strikes gold again with another non-linear, gripping, and schmaltzy narrative, now with far crazier twists and stakes’, AV Club pens.

It’s full of flashbacks but they’re absolutely of the best kind, with each fleshing out both the characters and the story in ways that continually shift your understanding of what’s going on.

Julianne Nicholson and Sarah Shahi also get to play great characters in an eight-parter that has everything from scale to detail, humour to tragedy, all driven by a murder mystery and a gripping, twisting plot that will leave you cursing the fact this isn’t a box set release.

While you’re waiting for the next episode, though, each instalment will feel a little different the second time you watch.

It’s that kind of show, too. Expect to see it on a lot of ‘best of’ lists at the end of the year.
