Myleene Klᴀss has reflected on feeling privileged to have had financial independence while raising her two daughters alone during her time as a single mum. 

The singer, 46, has daughter Ava, 17, and Hero, 13, with ex husband Graham Quinn. They were together for 12 years until Graham walked out on Myleene on her birthday in 2013, just six months after their wedding day.

She raised them as a single mother until she met current partner Simon Motson, 49, in 2015, with the couple welcoming their son Apollo in 2019. 

Speaking in a new Instagram post, the star noted that having the freedom to make choices for her children without the input of a partner ’empowered’ her, as she told how ‘proud’ she was to be both mother and father to her girls.

Myleene also compared her experience to her other friends and also her fiancé Simon, who himself has a son, 17 and a daughter, 13 from his previous relationship with Anna Walton.

She wrote a lengthy message about her situation alongside a video from a recent appearance on Loose Women in which she praised her partner and spoke her  requirements when entering into the relationship as a single mother.

Myleene compared her experience to her other friends and also her fiancé Simon, who himself has a son, 17 and a daughter, 13 from his previous relationship with Anna Walton

She penned: ‘Dating as a single mum is HARD. You have responsibilities to your children as well as to yourself. 

‘I admit, I have the privilege of raising my children ‘alone’, and that having financial independence has removed many burdens as my choices are my own and I can solely steer my children where I and they feel is right for them, which has empowered me and my girls.

‘In fact, being both ‘mum and dad’ to my daughters is my proudest achievement. It’s scary, but sometimes doing it alone is surprisingly easier.’

Myleene then went on to compare her own experience to other people in her life who no doubt had to consult their former partners about child related decisions, before discussing the rise in blended families. 

She said: ‘Many of my co parenting friends have different experiences of this including my fiancé, but blended families are the biggest, fastest growing set up and whilst blending them can have challenges, acknowledging the 2.4 nuclear unit no longer exists and this is the shape for many to come, makes it feel less of a stigma and something to navigate and thrive in.’

Going on to praise all step-parents, including her own fiance, Myleene concluded: ‘To the ‘Steps’ that ‘step up’ everyday and show little eyes that are loved and adored, thank you. 

To the mums/dads that pull double shift, double duty alone, I see you. To our very own ‘Sim/Dad’, we love you.’ 

Myleene was thrown into financial peril after her split from firmer bodyguard Graham, as her reported £11million fortune was put in jeopardy as she refused a pre-nuptial agreement.

She is now in a happy blended family with Simon – who popped the question in 2020 – and their children

Speaking to the Mirror after the split, she said of Graham:  ‘I married a convicted drug dealer and didn’t sign a prenup. What was I thinking? When I say that sentence aloud, I realise how stupid it was…

‘I just wish I had listened to my dad, my friends and everyone in the papers. Everyone could hear the alarm bells except me. I should have just opened my eyes.’

Meanwhile, back in 2021, Myleene reflected on being a single mother to her two daughters Ava and Hero, saying it has strengthened their bond and made them ‘bombproof’. 

In a Q&A with fans, as well as answering questions about her blended family with fiancé Simon and their son Apollo, Myleene credited her daughters with ‘keeping her strong’.

‘People said my girls would keep me strong and they were right. Being a single mum certainly galvanised the relationship I have with my daughters. 

‘We’re bombproof together and have an insane connection. 

‘You will find your way and will realise there’s something so much better waiting for you. If I’d known what was waiting for me I’d have sprinted through that fire.’
