Danny Jones makes candid I’m A Celeb confession as he sets sights on new career path

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Winner Danny Jones recently shared his joy over the fact that the show allowed viewers to see the ‘real’ him.

The singer, 38, was crowned King of the Jungle last month after spending three weeks in the Australian outback and he was thrilled with the positive reactions from viewers.

In a new interview, Danny opened up about how the show captured him at his most vulnerable—hungry and exhausted—and yet viewers still embraced him.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said, ‘It was just me and my personality at my worst, when I was hungry and tired.’

He continued: ‘So realising you’re loved for your personality was a mᴀssive thing. I’ve been protected by “Danny from McFly” as a character, but that’s not the person who goes home and is vulnerable.’

He added: ‘What you saw on I’m A Celebrity is the real me. I wasn’t protected by my vocals or my guitar. When I won, I thought, “Ah, people understand me”. It was liberating… very empowering.’

The ITV reality show has also opened new doors for Danny, who is gearing up for a McBusted tour later this year, where McFly will face off against Busted.

Despite initially planning to take some time off, Danny admitted that ITV has other plans for him, as he expressed interest in exploring presenting roles.

The father-of-one also revealed that it’s taken him some time to find his comfort zone in TV.

He admitted to feeling ‘scared’ of live TV and was ‘always reliant’ on his bandmates to do the talking. But after his experience on The Voice Kids, Danny realised that his own personality was enough.

Last year, Danny and his bandmate Tom Fletcher, 39, coached as a duo on The Voice, winning the compeтιтion with singer AVA.

Danny, who also won The Masked Singer last year, is hoping that he and Tom will return to The Voice in the future, as they both have a ‘real pᴀssion’ for it.

During his time in the jungle, Danny also opened up about his emotions and mental health and is now keen to continue helping others.

Speaking at his I’m A Celeb pal Coleen Rooney’s Applied Nutrition launch in London earlier this month, Danny emphasised the importance of talking to men about mental health.

He also expressed a desire to help young people or communities who want to pursue music.

Last month Danny said he felt ‘healed’ after he confided in his campmates about his mental health struggles and his ‘estranged father’.

Speaking on the ITV2 spin-off show I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked, he said: ‘Day five was hard. Going on in my head was “Is this real?” the starvation, the boredom, the hunger.’

‘I tried to take it in my stride and have fun, this is the process, this is what we have to go through.’

‘I’ve had the most overwhelming physically and mentally draining experience and I’ve come out learning something about myself and these guys, it was so interesting and inspiring.’

‘I never thought I would open up with every camera in the world on you. I showed a side I only show my nearest and dearest but I was asked and that is what I’m like when I’m asked those questions.’

‘We don’t talk about that stuff as men, I feel healed because it’s out there and I showed emotion and that’s strength.’

‘I didn’t realise people are going through the same thing, it’s nice to get it out there and it’s out there now and I do feel good for it.’

Last month, Danny’s ‘estranged father’ lifted the lid on their decades-long rift for the first time, revealing he hasn’t seen the star for 18 years.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, Alan Jones, 72, believes a bitter divorce from Danny’s mother Kathy tarnished his relationship with his son, who he describes as a ‘lovely lad’ with a ‘heart of gold’.

He claims they had an ‘excellent’ bond throughout the McFly guitarist’s childhood in Bolton and he ‘dedicated his life’ to helping kick-start his successful music career.

The radio DJ, who now lives in Benidorm with his current wife Sharon, has yet to meet his six-year-old grandson Cooper, who Danny shares with his wife and former Miss England Georgia Horsley – but he is holding out hope that ‘one day it will happen’ and that he’ll ‘finally get that pint with his son’.
