Coldplay release 45-minute film to celebrate the release of tenth album Moon Music – as Chris Martin calls it ‘the best thing we have ever been a part of’

Coldplay have released a new film to accompany and celebrate their latest album, Moon Music.

The British band’s tenth album soared to number one in 16 countries – including the UK – following its release in October.

They have since unveiled 45-minute special A Film For The Future, a collaborative project developed with more than 150 directors and animation specialists from 45 countries across the world.

The film includes visuals for all of the new album’s ten tracks, with each collaborator given free reign to create something based purely on their own artistic instinct.

The results are currently available on YouTube, while fans have also been given the chance to watch it in full as an ‘immersive experience’ at Lightroom in London and Manchester.

Reflecting on the new film, singer Chris Martin said: ‘I don’t like to say this, but this is the best thing we have ever been a part of.

‘So if you do get a chance to see it, please do. So many incredible people have been involved.’

Coldplay originally teased the film in 2019 – six years before its release – with the artwork for their album including a license plate reading FFTF2024.

Director Ben Mor, who collaborated with the band on their new film, added: ‘It was a huge privilege to have the bird’s eye view of such an ambitious project, working with so many incredible animators and filmmakers all working independently of each other.

‘The final film is simply jaw-dropping and I can’t wait for Coldplay’s fans to see it.’

Lead singer Martin previously revealed the group would release two more albums before disbanding.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, he said: ‘We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Because less is more and for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.’

Explaining his reasoning behind the decision, he added: ‘There’s only seven Harry Potters.

‘There’s only 12 and a half Beatle albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes.

‘Also having that limit means the quality control is so high right now and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great.

‘And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.’

However, for fans of the British band, all is not lost, as the singer also admitted other projects could be in the pipeline.

He added that whatever ‘side thing’ they do would have to be ‘something completely different’.

Coldplay have released several top selling albums through the duration of their career and have built a mᴀssive following.

For their album X&Y, which was released in 2005, the band won a Brit Award for British Album of the Year.

The Album Everyday Life, which was released in 2019, received a GAFFA award for International Band of the Year.

Their most played song on YouTube, as of 4th October 2024, is The Chainsmokers & Coldplay – Something Just Like This, sitting at over two billion views.
