Fearne Cotton reflects on the ‘outrageous’ moment she wore a see through dress on Love Island and reveals she still owns the garment two decades on

Fearne Cotton has revealed she still owns her scandalous Love Island dress.

The presenter, 43, hosted season two of the original celebrity format alongside Patrick Kielty in 2006 – 11 years before the ITV show was rebooted into its current format with members of the public.

While hosting the final, Fearne famously suffered a wardrobe malfunction, leaving her grappling to protect her modesty on live television.

She recalled the incident in a YouTube video this week as she gave fans a glimpse inside her wardrobe.

Pulling out the white mini dress, she shared: ‘Some of you younger folk will maybe not know that I hosted the original iteration of Love Island.

‘During one of the live finals live on telly I got pushed into the swimming pool at the end and my dress went see through, live on telly… Outrageous!’

Fearne took over from Kelly Brook hosting the second series of Celebrity Love Island which saw Bianca Gascoigne and Calum Best crowned the winners.

The show was revived in 2015 with Caroline Flack at the helm, with Laura Whitmore taking over for three seasons after Caroline stepped down and later tragically took her own life in 2020.

It is currently hosted by Maya Jama and the format has also sparked several spin-off versions, Love Island Games and Love Island: All Stars.

While Fearne was a familiar face on a host of shows in the Noughties, she has stepped back from presenting in recent years.

Last June, the podcast host revealed that ‘no money in the world’ would make her return to live radio or TV, admitting that ‘all of her mental health lows’ had been due to work.

The star spoke in a very candid new interview about her struggles and panic attacks in her early career when she was a children’s television presenter for GMTV, CITV and CBBC.

She told how it is impossible to be in the public eye when you’re young and ‘get through it in one piece’ as she admitted big red carpet events never felt ‘safe’ to her.

Speaking to The Times she said: ‘If you want to get a whole host of mental health problems, get in the public eye really young, because you get them all.

‘There’s no way you can get through it in one piece … All my mental health lows are because of my job. Nothing else. It is not conducive to a balanced mind.’

Fearne recalled: 'During one of the live finals live on telly I got pushed into the swimming pool at the end and my dress went see through, live on telly... Outrageous!' Fearne pictured in the final

Fearne went on to explain how live radio and TV is no longer for her due to the ‘level of risk and judgement’, saying her ‘nervous system can’t take’ being thrown into a ‘pit of lions’.

She added: ‘Because cancel culture exists, it’s that you could do one thing and you’re done, you’re ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Bye!

‘Everyone’s waiting for you to cock up so they can all point fingers and say that you’ve always been terrible.’

The blonde beauty also reflected on her mental health struggles in her early years, saying she would not sleep the night before live radio and would end up feeling ill which escalated into ‘anxiety and panic attacks’.

This continued until she began to question why she was doing it to herself and decide to step away.

Fearne has since focused on her popular Happy Place podcast, which sees her interview different celebrities, including Jada Pinkett Smith, Stephen Fry and Hillary Rodham Clinton, which has also spurned its own festival.
