A beloved ITV drama is reportedly ‘set for a movie version’ after the show was axed.

Martin Clunes starred in Doc Martin as the eccentric GP, with the beloved series running from 2004 until 2022.

The British series was axed right after its tenth season despite rave reviews and steady ratings – and now the actor, 63, has revealed he could be returning to his role.

‘There was talk from one of the movie distributors about making a film version of Doc Martin and my answer at the moment, two years on from finishing the 10th and final series, is never say never – it could happen,’ he told The Sun.

‘We did film a couple of feature-length Christmas specials which ran to 90 and 120 minutes and that proved we could pull it off, when it comes to making a longer version of Doc Martin. So it is possible.’

MailOnline has contacted ITV’s representatives for a comment.

Martin Clunes starred in Doc Martin as the eccentric GP, with the beloved series running from 2004 until 2022 and he could be returning to the role

Last month, the Wimbledon-born actor looked worlds away from Doc Martin in a gritty first look at the new ITV thriller Out There.

The actor is known for his role as the grouchy but loveable GP, but Martin Clunes’ latest role sees him tackle far more than rude villagers and their ailments.

ITV’s new six-part series Out There sees Martin play Welsh farmer Nathan, who is confronted with dark forces seeping into his rural community.

The story follows the stealthy and surrepтιтious invasion of the land Nathan cherishes with devastating consequences.

His livelihood, homestead and family life are threatened by local county lines drugs dealers, who are essentially urban gangs using the British countryside as a field of operations, moving drugs and money between their inner-city hubs and provincial areas.

In the trailer, Nathan’s 15-year-old son Jonny, played by Louis Ashbourne Serkis, is seen being pressured to look after a drug dealer’s cannabis supply for two days.

But when the drugs go missing from his bedroom, Johnny tells his dad and accuses the cleaner of swiping them.

Nathan is forced to make some dangerous decisions to protect his teenage son as he falls deeper and deeper into the slimy underworld of crime.
