Nina Dobrev had to evacuate her home on January 9 amid the LA fires. It was her 36th birthday and now, nearly two weeks later, she’s still shaken.
She shared an emotional video to her Instagram feed over the weekend in which she detailed her feelings.
‘Hi everyone, it’s been such a tragic time in Los Angeles recently,’ she began. ‘I have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all the destruction and devastation that these fires have caused and displaced so many families.’
The Vampire Diaries star continued, ‘My heart is broken for all the people affected by these wildfires.
‘We evacuated on January 9th, definitely not how I planned on spending my birthday, but I wanted to make this video to thank everyone for their birthday wishes and to make a request,’ she said.
Nina then admitted she’s ‘feeling survivor’s guilt,’ because her home ‘made it’ despite being close to one of the fires.

‘But so many others were not so lucky,’ she added as she made a plea to her followers to donate to people who are in need.
Nina shared that she looked into how she could help and what people affected by the fires actually need.
‘What people really need right now is financial aid to help them get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives and their homes,’ she said.
She then shared a link to a Google spreadsheet with links to family Go Fund Me accounts and revealed she went down the list and donated to the families for her birthday.
‘So for my birthday this year I went down that list and I donated to those families and it would be my birthday wish and I would love it if you could do the same,’ she continued.
‘Small or big donations that’s up to you, whatever is within your means.’
She added that not only have families lost everything, in many cases, their insurance dropped them prior to the fires.
‘They’ve lost everything and my heart breaks into a million pieces for them,’ she said.

She also shared a handful of pH๏τos from the fires.

Tuesday marks two weeks since the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire broke out and swept through their respective neighborhoods.
The Pacific Palisades and Altadena have basically been wiped off the map from the two devastating fires that were fueled by high winds gusting up to 100mph.
The winds made fighting the fire in the initial hours of the blazes nearly impossible.
The fires have claimed 27 lives and destroyed more than 13,600 structures. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes.
L.A. fire fighters are preparing for another round of high winds expected in the region from Monday through Wednesday.

As of this writing the Palisades Fire is 52% contained and the Eaton Fire is at 87% containment.
Last month, Nina and her longtime boyfriend Olympic snowboard champion Shaun White, 38, recently got engaged.
Shaun shared a video of his sweet proposal on Instagram.
‘Still floating after this night! I’m beside myself to be with this amazing woman and to be joining her beautiful family!!’ he captioned footage of the romantic moment.
The gushing note continued, ‘Our quarantine romance turned into this beautiful relationship and now a forever love.’
