A familiar face is joining the cast of Scream 7. 

Jasmin Savoy Brown will be returning as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Variety reports.

Brown, 30, played Mindy in 2023’s Scream IV and 2022’s Scream. Mason Gooding plays Mindy’s brother Chad.

Brown’s return isn’t the only addition to the Scream cast. 

Joel McHale will also be joining on as Mark Evans, Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) husband, ᴅᴇᴀᴅline reports. McHale, 53, is currently working on the film in Atlanta. 

The casting means that Patrick Dempsey won’t be playing Sidney’s husband, after viewers previously ᴀssumed his character Detective Mark Kincaid had at some point wed Prescott, with her spouse being named ‘Mark’ in the last two Scream films.

Entertainment Weekly has since reported that the Grey’s Anatomy alum, 59, will not be in Scream 7. 

Dempsey, who appeared in Scream 3, previously said he was in talks about reprising his role as Kincaid for the seventh installment.

‘Well, they’ve been talking to me about it, and I think they’re still working on the script,’ Dempsey told People back in October. ‘And, of course, Neve [Campbell] has signed on, so I think we’ll see.’

Dempsey was eagerly awaiting the script being sent to him, with hopes that the film and his role is still on track towards the start of production.

‘I’m waiting to read the script and to see if it actually goes,’ the Lewiston, Maine native explained. ‘In this business, you never know what’s going to happen. But if the opportunity opens itself up and it becomes a reality, then I’ll definitely take it seriously.’

One major name that is returning to the franchise is Courteney Cox. 

A source close to the star revealed last month to Variety that she would be retuning to the hit horror franchise and reprise her role as Gale Weathers.

Last week director Kevin Williamson gave fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of Scream.
