Roman Kemp’s replacement for presenting duties at the BRIT Awards 2025 is REVEALED – after it was announced he wouldn’t be hosting

The One Show host Roman Kemp has been replaced as host for this year’s BRIT Awards by Jack Whitehall, it has been announced.

It was revealed on Wednesday that the son of the Spandau Ballet star wouldn’t be hosting the 2025 ceremony despite viewers hailing him a huge success last year.

Comedian Jack previously hosted the ceremony four times but hasn’t been at the helm since 2021 as a result of his busy schedule.

In a clip announcing his return, Jack was seen workshopping puns on his name for the big reveal as well as pretending to call an array of celebrity chums.

Roman showed there was no love lost over the gig as he expressed support for Jack’s return by commenting: ‘Return of the King.’

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: ‘Jack is such a brilliant Brits host and isn’t afraid to take the p**s out of some of the world’s biggest stars.

‘He has such a hectic diary that he’s been unable to take part for the past few years  but he was available this time and said yes immediately.

‘It is one of his favourite gigs as he can have some real fun with the celebs.’

Friends of the star say that he will not return for this year’s ceremony which is due to take place on Saturday March 1 at London’s O2 Arena after stepping in at the last minute for the 2024 show.

Roman was previously called as a stand in to replace Idris Elba, 52, who pulled out at short notice.

‘Roman has been told he isn’t hosting this year,’ said a BRITs insider. ‘He loved it but accepts that these things change.

‘He was flattered to be chosen to do it last year but he’s a pro and gets it.’

Viewers last year hailed his performance a success, presenting besides Maya Jama, 30, and Clara Amfo, 40, who had also presented the awards in 2022.

Explaining last year that it was his dream job, he revealed whilst live on Capital radio that he ‘burst into tears’ when he was asked to do present the BRITs.

‘When they told me, I cried,’ said Roman. ‘The BRITs has always been on this pedestal for me, because in terms of excitement in the UK, there is nothing like it.’

After the awards, Kemp posted on Instagram: ‘And just like that, the Brits was hosted. Dream come true had so much fun on what was a very special night.’

The son of Spandau Ballet musician Martin Kemp, 63, was praised for his job last year.

In a viral moment he even convinced Kylie Minogue, who won the BRITs’ Global Icon award, to drink her signature rosé wine from her high heels during an interview with the pop star at her table, saying it would be ‘amiss’ for the pair to not ‘go with an Aussie tradition’.

Roman replaced Jay Blades as host of The Repair Shop for the BBC show’s Christmas special.

He has been a regular presenter on The One Show since 2022, previously presenting the Capital radio breakfast show from 2017 until last year.

During the festive period in 2024 he revealed he has stopped taking antidepressants for the first time in 16 years.

He said since taking the medication since the age of 15, he had finally stopped taking antidepressants four months prior and now that they were out of his system, he was looking forward to understanding his true emotions.

The presenter, who has had depression since the age of 15, took to Instagram at the end of November to share an update on his mental health with fans.

‘Now while I’m still learning about why I suddenly want to cry more and may get snappier at my friends, I’m excited at understanding what the emotional side of me is really like,’ he said.

Roman has been candid about his struggle with his mental health and has campaigned tirelessly following the sudden death of his friend, radio producer Joe Lyons, who took his own life.

Sharing a selfie, Roman wrote: ‘It’s now been four months since I stopped taking anti-depressants and it’s safe to say they’re out of my system.

‘Something I have taken since I was 15 years old.’

He added: ‘I’m neither for or against taking anti-depressants, I’m about what is right for YOU and if it helps you then go for it.

‘They helped me through a long period of mental struggle in my life but I’m now ready to move on. Only posting in case anyone was ever worried about starting/stopping ❤️.’

Back in March, Roman thanked his listeners for ‘saving his life’ during his battle with depression as he hosted his final show on Capital Breakfast.

He credited the show and its listeners for getting him through some of his darkest days – ahead of his departure from the channel.

During his last show, Roman delivered a touching speech as he said how grateful he was to them for bringing ‘light and laughter into his life’ during his slot on the radio.

Roman took over from comedian Mo Gilligan, 36, who hosted the show in 2022 and 2023.
