According to the Express, the acclaimed writer shared at Bath Literature Festival that there would only be one more addition to the detective novels.

She said: ‘There will only be one more Vera novel,’ subsequently hinting with a playful comment: ‘But I probably won’t kill her off!’
The writer cheekily added: ‘Well, that was a bombshell, wasn’t it?’
According to the publication, fans were devastated by the news and expressed their dismay on social media.
One reportedly penned: “She can’t do that.’
Another asked: ‘Does this mean there will be no more Vera books?’
It comes after Vera fans broke down in tears and made a desperate plea to ITV bosses as the final season kicked off in January.
The detective series is famed for its compelling storylines, mysteries and captivating performances.
However, Oscar-nominated actress Brenda Blethyn, 78, who stars as DCI Vera Stanhope in the show, has hung up her infamous trench coat and hat and bid farewell to Northumberland and the North East with one last season.
Fans who tuned into the first episode on New Year’s Day were left sobbing just seconds into the show.
They took to social media to demand that similar detective shows are made to fill the Vera-shaped hole forming in their hearts.
