The 7th Heaven actress went on to explain keeping their family life private is a double-edged sword, as it means when they do have outings, the media jumps on the rare appearances.
She referenced taking her son Silas, then nine, to the US Open in New York in 2024, which sparked a huge discussion with her son about the public attention that would come from it.
‘[Silas and I] had this opportunity, and we talked about it. We talked about pH๏τographers. You know, “Are you comfortable with that?”‘ she recalled.
‘He can’t make these decisions on his own, but at this point, we can at least discuss what’s his opinion around it,’ she added.
The mom said they eventually decided to go, not wanting him to miss out because of what could come from their outing.
‘You really want to give your kids every experience. I don’t know if it was the right decision, to be honest with you, but he and I had a good time,’ she shared.
However, Jessica admitted it is ‘scary’ every time they are faced with the prospect of going out as a family and being hounded by the media.
‘But it’s also their life. And so it’s this really tricky, tricky thing to figure out, what’s appropriate,’ she said.
