BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt gasps ‘are you okay?!’ as Naga Munchetty wobbles on sofa and warns ‘I feel faint’ in middle of broadcast

BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt gasped ‘are you okay?!’ as Naga Munchetty wobbled on the sofa and warned ‘I feel faint’ in the middle of the broadcast.

The regular co-presenters were hosting the news programme as normal today when the touch-and-go moment happened just before 9am.

The pair had just turned to look right down the camera lens after interviewing a guest when Naga, 50, suddenly seemed to slip briefly off the edge of the sofa.

She said, laughing nervously: ‘Five minutes to – oh, nearly fell off the chair then! Five minutes to nine…’

Her co-host, 62, slightly baffled at the randomness of the moment, gestured to the sofa and replied: ‘I don’t know what to say, it stayed in the same place, it’s quite secure!’

Naga quickly reᴀssured him, saying, ‘It was just my hand, it’s just my hand slipped’ – before her face fell and she suddenly went serious, putting her hand to forehead to admit: ‘Feeling all faint.’

It came after the co-presenters had to quickly adapt following a technical fault in their coverage of local council election results earlier in the programme.

The screen cut off entirely at one point, leaving viewers at home entirely unable to see what was happening in the studio.

The programme was forced to instead cut back to reporter Hannah Miller, tuning in live from Bristol, who had been discussing the mayoral elections in the city.

But even that then experienced a hitch too, with the sound suddenly cutting out while she was speaking and the screen displaying an error message reading ‘no input signal’.

They eventually managed to get the show back on the road, with Naga chiming in: ‘Apologies there, Hannah Miller, our correspondent talking to us from Bristol.

‘Technical problems. The gremlins do come in when we have a morning of breaking news and new results.

‘But we will keep you up to date with the Labour holding in that area.’

Her co-host, 62, slightly baffled at the randomness of the moment, gestured to the sofa and replied: 'I don't know what to say, it stayed in the same place, it's quite secure!'

It comes after Naga revealed her true feelings towards Charlie amid feud rumours behind the scenes of the show – and admitted ‘you can fake’ being friends on camera.

The presenter has made headlines recently with reports about alleged rifts between her colleagues.

Last month, viewers commented how Naga looked ‘unimpressed’ with ‘mansplaining’ Charlie.

And the Mail’s Katie Hind revealed last month tensions between Naga and the show editor, Richard Frediani.

But the broadcaster delved into how she really feels about some things in a recent interview with the Times.

Though Charlie is ‘good friend’ of Naga, according to the publication, she revealed her thoughts on sofa chemistry.

‘Oh you can fake it, of course you can,’ Naga said.

She also shared her take on dealing with various ‘egos’ in the workplace.

‘You wrestle with egos all the time, in front and behind the camera,’ she added. ‘Know your worth.’

It comes as Naga was pH๏τographed keeping her distance from her BBC Breakfast co-star Charlie and show editor as she left the studios in Manchester amid the rumoured feud and bulling row.

Some staff have shared their unhappiness with the show’s editor, who has been accused by insiders of being on occasion ‘aggressive’ and ‘belittling’ towards his underlings.

Sources on the show say that Naga has expressed uneasiness about his behaviour to bosses at the corporation.

An insider says that Naga is ‘quite open’ about her ill-feeling towards Frediani, while another says that she has an ‘uneasy relationship’ with him.

Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am and is available to stream on iPlayer.
