They are one of the most famous couple’s in the world of showbiz and over the years David and Victoria Beckham haven’t been afraid to experiment with their fashion looks.
While he rose to fame on the pitch, the former footballer also has a penchant for looking good and makes sure to always turn heads wherever he goes.
Celebrating his 50th birthday on Friday, David’s glamorous lifestyle is showing no sign of slowing down and is arguably one of the best-dressed fiftysomethings on the celebrity circuit.
From the iconic leather suit, to the bling jewellery, bleach blonde hair and of course THAT sarong, David loves to experiment.
And as he marks the big 50 there seems like no better time to take a look back at his great (or not so great) fashion moments.
As a showbiz power couple, David and Victoria suffered their fair share of ridicule for their joint clothes choices after they famously used to wear matching outfits back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
As David Beckham marks the big 50 there seems like no better time to take a look back at his great (or not so great) fashion moments including his iconic leather look from 1999
One of David’s most experimental looks was his famous sarong worn with slider sandals and a black sleeveless T-shirt on a night out with Victoria in 1998
He previously told Glamour magazine: ‘I don’t regret anything but that doesn’t mean that I don’t look back and think “what was I thinking?!”
‘There are certain parts throughout my relationship with Victoria or my own individual style where I do think that, but at the time it was great. Or at least, I thought it was great at the time.
‘There are certain moments, like when we wore matching Gucci leather outfits – we both look back at that and think “hmm, OK”.
One of David’s most experimental looks was his famous sarong worn with slider sandals and a black sleeveless T-shirt on a night out with Victoria in 1998.
Even almost 20 years after wearing the garment at the World Cup he said at a press conference that he ‘liked the sarong’.
The outfit took on a life of its own, becoming part of a sketch with impressionist Alistair McGowan playing David and Ronni Ancona giving her best Victoria on his show The Big Impression.
In 1999 the couple caused a stir after they turned up to a Versace event in London in all Gucci leather.
The pair wore matching wrap around collar leather jackets, matching trousers and black leather boots and shoes.

David and Victoria also matched up at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles in 2003 as the footballer opted for a full white suit with shimmery lapels

Victoria said they didn’t wear matching outfits a lot but the times that they did were well documented, including this matching outfit in 1998
In December 2022, speaking in Vogue Visionaries Victoria fondly reminisced of the look: ‘Myself and David turning up to a Versace event in matching Gucci leather […] wearing the wrong designer, but you know, owning it.
‘Listen, everyone wants to show me them [the images], and everyone wants to know what I think of them.
‘Back then, I didn’t know any better. I didn’t know the fashion industry. So there was something so sweet and naive about the fact I didn’t care. I just expressed myself in that way.’
Yet the matching outfits certainly wasn’t a one time thing after they also matched up at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles in 2003 as they both wowed in all white.
Back in October 2021, Victoria revealed during a visit on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon why she and David used to wear matching outfits.
‘It just seemed like a really good idea at the time,’ Victoria said, drawing giggles from the studio audience in New York City.
‘It really did. I think there was a naïveté then, we didn’t know about fashion,’ she added.
‘We were just having fun with it, which to be honest with you, is kind of the way it should be. I really wish I had the courage to do it more now,’ Victoria said.
And in 2023 the pair brought back the matching looks after they dressed in near identical light-wash denim shirts and jeans for a movie night.
The fashion designer wrote alongside the image: ‘I thought those days were over! (I got dressed first FYI).’
As well as his outlandish clothing choices, David has explored the world of bling jewellery, sporting huge diamond studs, diamond-encrusted watches and blinged out rings.

While his locks are well-groomed and neat now, over the years the star experimented with the floppy curtains of the mid to late-nineties and sometimes sported a headband

For a period he styled cornrow braids
And his hair has rarely stayed the same.
While his locks are well-groomed and neat now, over the years the star experimented with the floppy curtains of the mid to late-nineties and bleached blonde tips.
He also had a period sporting the shaved head, a mohawk, hairbands, cornrows, and bleach blonde dye.
He once admitted: ‘From fragrance to hairstyles to beards, none of my grooming choices are planned. It’s all dependent on what kind of mood I’m in.’
However nowadays David admitted he is less experimental and described his style as more ‘understated’ in his older years.
Speaking to GQ ahead of his recent BOSS campaign he confessed: ‘I think since I started to get a little bit older, in all honesty. I think gone are the days where I’d be too daring. I think I’ll leave that to my kids.
‘My sons are quite daring in what they wear, but my aesthetic is really kind of classic now. It’s very understated.’
He added: ‘I suppose these days, the only things that I push the boundaries on is I’ve made a wide-leg trouser, an oversized trouser for one of the suits.’
A regular at Paris Fashion Week, David now opts for the more dapper look, however he’s still got it underneath the suit.

Earlier this year the star sent fans into meltdown with a steamy new advertisement for BOSS underwear.
The extended version of the video saw him strip off for a shower scene in a 007 style montage with voyeuristic full frontal nudity and close up crotch sH๏τs.
As David began to strip off, a group of people at a party in the opposite building began to watch as his rippling physique caught their eye.
Wearing just a pair of BOSS boxers, David relaxes in his apartment, playing pool and doing pull ups on a bar – with jaw-dropping results.
He might be 50 but his fashion endeavours are certainly not over.
