A couple on Escape To The Country said their hearts sank in the middle of the show as they had a stark realisation – and went on to snub every single property.
Marcus and Nicola appeared on last night’s episode of the BBC show, looking to relocate from Halifax, West Yorkshire, with the help of presenter Sonali Shah.
On a budget of £850,000, the pair wanted to move to the North Yorkshire moors with their ten-year-old son Mason, after their two eldest children had left home.
The parents had several requirements, including three bedrooms, an office, at least half an acre of land and space to potentially create a holiday let business.
The first of the three homes Sonali had lined up for them was in the quaint village of Middleton Tyas.
On the market for £810,000, a whopping £40,000 under budget, it met all their requirements – plus an extra bedroom and three generous reception rooms.

Going on to snub the other two properties, Nicola (pictured) revealed right at the end of the episode the couple had realised they might not want an escape to the country at all
While the couple were impressed by its ‘grand’ features at first, Nicola soon admitted her ‘heart sank’ at the level of upkeep the enormous property would require.
Going on to snub the other two properties, Nicola revealed right at the end of the episode the couple had realised they might not want an escape to the country at all.
She admitted: ‘I think I’ve learned that it’s not in the Moors I need, it’s near to the Moors. I don’t want Mason to be isolated.
‘I think I’m happy with that – but I just don’t want to take his friendship groups away.’
Their U-turn came after Sonali had showed the couple two other properties that were almost exactly what they had asked for.
The second home was an 18th-century farmhouse in the coastal village of Seamer, which came with an established holiday let business in the form of a two-bedroom cottage.
Also boasting an enormous six acres of land, it was on the market for £700,000 – well within the couple’s budget.
Marcus and Nicola quickly got excited about what life in this home might look like, immediately generating renovation and business ideas.

The final property, available for £795,000, was a characterful 16th-century cottage in the moorland village of Harwood Dale.
Although it only had two bedrooms, one less than the couple wanted, it had two one-bedroom holiday lets – along with a sprawling ten acres of land.
Sonali got in touch with the couple some time later to check in – which was when Nicola dropped the bombshell revelation she had about life in the country maybe not being for them.
They had planned a second viewing at the second property, having discounted homes one and three – but they ended up deciding even that was not quite right either.
It was revealed just before the credits rolled that the Halifax couple ended up finding their dream home, with a stunning four bedrooms, outside the programme.

A recent episode of the show saw train engineer Hemi enlist help from Nicki Chapman as she tried to find the perfect property in Dorset for £800,000.
During her search, Nicki took the mum-of-one to a 18th century converted chapel as one of her options.

Hemi couldn’t believe it when she first laid her eyes on the house and was over the moon when she found out it was under budget, with an asking price of £650,000.
‘I don’t believe it, I just don’t. I’m speechless,’ Hemi said.
The guest then had to walk away from the camera because of how emotional she got.
Nicki asked Hemi: ‘Are you seeing a future?’ to which Hemi replied: ‘Yeah.’
The other guest chimed in: ‘And this provides you with your forever home.’
Hemi couldn’t control her emotions as the tears poured down her face and she apologised to Nicki.
Nicki told her: ‘You’re allowed to. It’s emotional.’
Hemi said: ‘It’s unbelievable, I mean the angels have really, they’ve looked after us haven’t they?’
