She added: ‘The house was locked, we couldn’t get in so we ended up smashing our way in, it was very traumatic.’

Carol had previously been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease, and her health began to progressively decline.
Police realised D’Wit had ‘posed as many different personas’, including a fictional US-based doctor who was thought to be helping Carol.
Ellie was pregnant with her second child when she made the horrific discovery of her parents’ bodies.
However, things took a turn when two months later, Ellie was arrested by police and found herself accused of her parents’ murders.
She was released after six hours of questioning and D’Wit was charged with double homicide.
Ellie recalled: ‘I was about seven months pregnant when I got the knock at the door… when they said you’re being arrested on suspicion for the murder of Carol and Stephen’s murder…’
Ellie recalled the day she found her parents and said: ‘I saw mum and dad both there, it was very obvious to me they had pᴀssed, the skin discolouration, it was really horrible.’
‘When I found mum and dad I never felt an emotional pain physically hurt so much and it really affected me.’
Ellie went on to add: I was early pregnant with my daughter and it really did hurt my body and I think I just went into that protection mode and I just needed to not let myself get too hysterical.’
Eventually D’Wit was jailed for life with a minimum term of 37 years back in March last year.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
