JLS star on life after baby loss: ‘I’ve been an absolute mess and in tears on the floor’ says ORITSE WILLIAMS

Oritse Williams has opened up about how he and his wife Kazz managed to get through the loss of two babies, in a new interview with MailOnline.

The JLS star, 38, said he and his wife suffered two miscarriages before welcoming their son, Shiva Zion, in November last year.

He said: ‘We’re going to have different years. I mean, for example, people know that, unfortunately, my wife and I had two miscarriages, and we lost two babies.

‘But now I leave home, and I get back home to a beautiful baby boy, the most beautiful baby boy in the world.’

Discussing men being able to share their feelings about painful times, he said: ‘I feel like it’s very important for men to not internalise their emotions because as men, we are so frightened, especially black men, of feeling weak, of being perceived as insecure, being emotional.

‘It’s very important for us to be able to voice our feelings and be comfortable with them, share our feelings.

‘Just from my own experience, when we lost the babies, I had I had that emotion inside for a very long time.

‘My wife’s emotions, Kazz’s emotions, it was out there. She was battling with those emotions.

‘I thought me being strong for her was bottling my emotions up. One day, she turned around and was like, Don’t you feel anything?

‘I just broke down, exasperated in tears on the floor. And she had to console me and lift me up. And I was just an absolute mess.

‘But you know what? In that, I felt the most free because I felt like I had all this emotion and feeling that was inside of me that kept on just bubbling and bubbling and was just going around in this cycle. And it needed to be released.’

Oritse is also father to a 10-year-old son from a previous relationship however he is still fighting for custody of his little boy with the child’s mother.

He said: ‘So again, the yin and yang of life. I’ve been fighting for access to my first son for eight and a half years, so I still I don’t have that access, unfortunately. And that’s always tough. That always is very heavy on my heart.

‘There’s not a day, a moment, a second, or a minute that goes by where I don’t think of my first son. I It’s been eight and a half years. You can’t get that time back. He can’t get that time back. I can’t get that time back.

‘We can’t get that time back. My family, his grandmother, my mom, his uncle’s cousin and aunties, none of us can get that time back. So once it’s gone, it’s gone. And so that is heavy. That continues to be heavy. I’m still fighting with everything I got, with every penny I have.’

Speaking about how he pushed through turbulent times, he told us: ‘First, family and friends, having wonderful family and friends that just love me dearly and support me. And having prayer. I’ll be straight up.

‘Prayer and having people and friends around me that pray with me.

‘I break it down like this. Spiritual therapy, physical therapy, and emotional therapy, the physical therapy I found in martial arts, the spiritual therapy through prayer, and the emotional therapy through music.

‘And so I really, really threw myself into all of that to get through crazy amounts of adversity in my life.’

He also paid homage to his fans, who he said gave him continued support when he was faced with ‘really tough times’.

He said: ‘And what I also say is I have to give so much love to my fans and the people out there that have supported me because the fans and everyone that’s been on my journey are the ones that have lifted me up. The fans are fighting for me.’

‘People fight for me. Members of the public that I don’t even know are fighting for me. I’ve been very blessed and fortunate enough that I really felt the support and the arms of the people when I’ve been through really tough times.

‘Life is a journey. We’re all going to go through ups and downs and peaks and troughs. That’s granted.

‘Not every year is going to be an amazing year, and not every year is going to be the worst year of our lives.’

Talking about their struggle to conceive Kazz, 40, previously revealed that she found out she was pregnant on the day they met with specialists to discuss IVF.

She said: ‘After the meeting, I started to feel a bit sick so I took a pregnancy test – and it was positive. I couldn’t believe it.’

In an emotional admission, Kazz revealed she was ‘happy and scared’ when she found out the news and due to their devastating losses was ‘crippled with anxiety’.

The couple booked weekly private scans in a bid to reᴀssure them both that everything was okay and it was here where they found out Kazz had gestational diabetes so had to change her diet.

Opening up about their journey, Oritsé said: ‘We are grateful for the support and love we have received. We had no idea that many of our friends went through it, too.’

Marketing manager and former singer Kazz, first met Oritsé in 2019 after they connected on social media.

The pair married in 2022 which he described as ‘one of the most magical moments’ of his life.

Oritsé previously wrote: ‘When we ran away, just the two of us together, just you and I and got married in Jamaica, it was one of the most magical moments in my entire life, but to be honest, I would’ve married you anywhere, because the magic is YOU.

‘When I watched you walk down the pier isle, along the Caribbean Sea, in the stunning golden hour in your magnificent champagne dress, honestly you made me struggle to keep all composure, I knew I was so blessed, I felt like the luckiest man on earth from the moment you said YES.’

The wedding, which he described as a fairytale, saw them exchange vows in front of five of their closest friends at boutique Zoëtry H๏τel on Jamaica’s Montego Bay.

Prior to his relationship with Kazz, Oritsé welcomed his son in 2014 with his ex Aimee Jade Azari. The pair split in 2016, a year and a half after AJ gave birth.

Oritsé rose to fame as one-fourth of JLS in 2009 and previously revealed a big reason he became a pop star was to afford care for his mother.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain in April, Oritse revealed he was just 12 when he became the main caregiver to his mother, his younger sister Naomi, who was two at the time, and his brother Temisan, then 10.

The star asked for more support for all young carers in the UK, recalling his own struggle looking after his mother as a child.

In 2023, Oritsé was announced as the official Commonwealth Ambᴀssador for Young Carers at St James Palace in front of the Royal Family and Commonwealth Ministers from around the world.

During the ceremony he gave an emotive performance a re-write of Stormzy’s Hide and Seek, detailing his experience as a young carer through spoken word.
