Ben Affleck has acted in well over 80 projects throughout his four-decade career in show business, but his teenage children aren’t always his biggest fans.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Berkeley-born, Cambridge-raised 52-year-old attempted to show 19-year-old Violet, 16-year-old Fin, and 13-year-old Samuel (with ex-wife Jennifer Garner) his 1998 movie Armageddon during quarantine.

‘All the kids were in the house,’ Ben recalled on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday.

‘Almost immediately, it was like, “What? What is this? This is so stupid! Are you kidding me?” My son was like, “This doesn’t make sense.” [I replied], “This is not a logic-based film! That is not one of the criteria we used making this!”‘

Affleck famously portrayed oil driller-turned-astronaut A.J. Frost in Michael Bay’s $140M-budget sci-fi flick, which received dismal reviews yet amᴀssed $553.7M at the global box office.

So the two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker was nervous when his kids and two 17-year-old step-kids Emme Muñiz and Max Muñiz (with second ex-wife Jennifer Lopez) agreed to see his new movie The Accountant 2.

‘My kids they’re like very tough and they don’t censor their criticism,’ Ben explained.

‘They’ll sit right next to me watching a movie and while it’s happening [say], “This is terrible. I mean, this is terrible. Why did you do this?” You can wait til it ended, you know what I mean, before [speaking]?!’

Affleck continued: ‘[But] they liked it. I was like, “What? You really liked it?!” They’re like, “Yeah, it was good.” They were shocked as if I got lucky, like this magical accident happened and something I did was okay!’

And critics agree as The Accountant 2 already scored a decent 79% approval rating (out of 73 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Artists Equity co-founder produced and reprised his role as autistic money launderer Christian Wolff in Gavin O’Connor’s $80M-budget action film, which hits US/UK theaters this Friday.

The Accountant 2 also features Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, J. K. Simmons, and Daniella Pineda.

The first Accountant film managed to earn $155.2M at the global box office back in 2016 despite dismal reviews.

Ben is currently hard at work on the set of his sixth feature directorial effort Animals, a hostage thriller for Netflix starring himself, Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, and Steven Yeun.

Affleck also produced Bill Condon’s $30M-budget remake of West End musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, starring his 55-year-old ex-wife, which hits US theaters October 10.
