ITV’s This Morning is known for covering a range of trending and newsworthy topics on a daily basis. 

But Friday’s instalment of the daytime TV show, hosted by Alison Hammond, 50, and Dermot O’Leary, 51, sent some viewers into a rage.

The presenting duo welcomed a guest who demonstrated how plants can play music.

Alison and Dermot stood and looked bewildered while they watched the guest perform.

During the performance, the man said: ‘It’s quite a common misconception that the plants or mushrooms are singing. It’s not the case, they’re not the singer, they’re the instrumentalist. 

‘So actually they are playing sound rather than hearing the sound of the plant.’

However, some viewers were not impressed by the segment and one even claimed ‘this show has completely lost its way,’ while someone else branded the act ‘nonsensical’. 

One fan took to X and said: ‘Yesterday we had a woman who married a river, today a man who records plants ‘singing’! #thismorning are really spoiling us this week.’

‘What on earth is my eyes being ᴀssaulted with? No wonder this country is a mess broadcasting this rubbish @thismorning.’

‘That explanation went over everyones heads #ThisMorning.’

‘What a load of nonsense. Electrical impulses pᴀssed through the leaves creates a sound, but is not the plant making the sound. It would work pᴀssing a current through a piece of paper. #thismorning.’

‘#ThisMorning has completely lost its way I think. Yesterday we saw a lady who said she’s married to some river and now there’s some guy on who thinks plants can sing.

‘A revamp of this show, including presenters is required urgently!!’

‘Someone please wake me up and tell me I’m not listening to plants playing effing music.’ 

‘What am I watching how do they keep a straight face?? #ThisMorning.’

However, some viewers were not impressed by the segment and one even claimed ‘this show has completely lost its way,’ while someone else branded the act ‘nonsensical’

It comes after Megan Ruth-Trump, 28, from Bristol, appeared on Thursday’s episode of This Morning to discuss her unique relationship with the river in the south-west of England.

Describing her big day, she told hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond: ‘It was a really magical day.

‘People say it was the best days of their lives and it was definitely was for me.’

During her wedding ceremony that took place in 2023, Megan revealed that the sweet moment was captured in a feature-length documentary. 

She said: ‘There was a film crew that was there. There were sH๏τs that you just saw from a documentary film, Rave On For The Avon, of which my wedding is the finale.

‘So we knew this story was going to be told beyond that day.’

Megan told how she had an ‘incredible celebrant’ at her wedding who was a really old family friend.

She continued: ‘She does funerals, mostly. This was her first wedding and she told me afterwards that she has never cried at any ceremony she has done for or since. But she cried on my wedding day.

‘It got all of us. Looking out at the audience everyone was weeping.’

When asked about jealousy when it comes to their relationship, the activist clarified: ‘It’s a very open relationship.

‘I know I’m [dressed in] green right now but I don’t often get jealous. I love going to the river and seeing lots of people enjoy being by the river. 

‘I’ve been on tour recently and I’ve been swimming in a lot of other rivers. And I don’t think that they’re jealous either.’

Megan uses her marriage as a crusade to combat water pollution and elevate public consciousness about this critical issue.
