Madonna sent social media into an uproar with a cryptic post about being ‘copied’ -days after Lady Gaga’s headlining set at Coachella.

In 2012, Gaga released her song Born This Way, which was widely criticized for its similarity to Madonna’s 1989 hit single Express Yourself.

As the furor gathered steam, Madonna herself waded into the controversy, saying that Gaga’s song ‘feels, uh, reductive.’

Now, however, the Material Girl has performed a stunning U-turn and defended female artists who were accused of being derivative of her.

She uploaded a picture of herself to Instagram this Wednesday, splashed with the words: ‘”Did you see so-and-so copied you?” God forbid a woman takes inspiration.’

The 66-year-old Queen Of Pop then captioned her Instagram post with a kiss emoji: ‘I see you, I love you. You’re doing great sweeties!’

The seven-time Grammy winner was quoting Kris Jenner from a 2007 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians where she’s cheering on daughter Kim Kardashian at her Playboy shoot: ‘You’re doing amazing sweetie!’

Still another bewailed the fact it ‘took her decades to see things differently… she should’ve had this supportive energy to a young rising pop star instead of feeling threatened and calling her “reductive”.’

‘She should have said this 15 years ago when ppl said Gaga was copying her,’ one X user groused, while another reacted with hilarity, honking: ‘LMAO we will never forget that “REDUCTIVE” statement you hag.’

Some observers even wondered whether Madonna might be reigniting her old feud with Gaga, asking: ‘why is she shading gaga,’ and: ‘is this a lady gaga shade???’

Meanwhile, Madonna ‘limited’ the comments on her Instagram post, but her defenders were out in force there, and one of them, @mikromc, was able to write: ‘Take that copycat @ladygaga!’
