Fans of The Conners were left shocked as the brutal details surrounding the death of matriarch Roseanne have been touched on as the series comes to a close.

The highly popular sitcom has detailed the death of Roseanne Barr’s – who is enjoying an idyllic Texas life – character as it was said she died of an opioid overdose at the very begging of the series.

She was the main character of the original Roseanne sitcom  which aired from 1988 to 1987 before a reboot in 2018 for a total of 10 total seasons.

This comes ahead of the finale of The Conners which is set for two parts next Wednesday, April 23.

In last week’s episode  Dan (John Goodman) asked for daughters Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and Becky’s (Lecy Goranson) help in trying to piece together the timeline of Roseanne’s addiction.

This led to multiple characters arguing over who was ultimately responsible for her death as Dan decided to sue the pharmaceutical company after Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) had suggested to take legal action.

He said: ‘My lawyer asked me to fill out these forms for my lawsuit against the pharmaceutical company and I need your help to remember the details.

‘We need to prove that her overdose was entirely the fault of the drug company and none of us could have done anything to prevent it.’

Darlene began to recall that time in the family’s life as she believed that September 14 was a day of relevance as she explained: ‘I told mom about [my difficult day] and she said, “I am not sure of anything that you’re saying because I have just taken my first pain pill.”‘

 This led to Becky asking how her mother got back on pain medication and that was when things took an unfortunate turn.

Dan said: ‘The doctor never cut her off — he kept upping her dosage because she kept complaining it wasn’t stopping the pain.

‘Then I found the extra pills she was getting from her friends. I knew she had friends but I didn’t know they were swapping pills like a bunch of San Francisco hippies.’

Dan went on to explain that he believed that Roseanne was done taking the pills after surgery.

He said: ‘It would have seemed that way to anyone. You spin things however you need to make it sound like that.’

The Conners will end after 7 seasons with a two episode finale next Wednesday, April 23

Then in the most recent episode – which aired on Wednesday – Jackie was talking about the deposition with their lawyer Jean (Jane Lynch).

She said: ‘I have been practicing with Dan and I can’t get him to be emotional when he talks about what happened with Roseanne. He just stuffs it down.

‘I even sent him links from depositions where loved ones really broke down to show him what will move a jury and he never opened them.’

The Conners premiered in 2018 after Roseanne Barr was fired from the reboot of her eponymous sitcom after making racist remarks about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett.

The series was rebranded and Roseanne’s character was killed off before the first episode aired.

A fan on Twitter was shocked by the Roseanne death storyline as they came up with their own theory about what is going on in the series.

A comment on The Conners Instagram said that Roseanne will always be pat of the Conner family despite being killed off
