Full House star, 65, reveals how he almost DIED from a common cold as he battled Stage 3 cancer

Full House star Dave Coulier is opening up about getting through his cancer chemotherapy treatments and how a simple cold was nearly fatal.

The 65-year-old comedian first came into prominence from playing comical cut-up Joey Gladstone on the 80s/90s sitcom, along with a number of animated voice roles.

Coulier revealed in October that he was diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma and started his chemotherapy treatments.

He added a month later that he was dealing with ‘a very aggressive’ form of cancer, though it was revealed in late March that he was cancer-free.

The actor joined his Full House and Fuller House co-stars Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber on their podcast How Rude, Tanneritos, where he opened up about his journey.

He also revealed that there were three weeks between his final treatment and learning he was cancer-free, where he caught a cold that almost cost him his life.

‘My blood levels were so low because after chemo treatment, red blood cells dive. All your levels, your white blood cells, everything, just your immune system just kind of crashes. And so I caught a cold during that last chemo treatment,’ Coulier said.

The comedian added that he couldn’t leave the hospital for 10 days because of the cold, adding he knew, ‘that the cumulative effect of the chemotherapy was going to happen.’

‘So I attributed it to that instead of realizing I have a cold and my immune system can’t handle it right now,’ the funnyman admitted.

He credited his wife, Melissa Bring, for telling him to see a doctor even when he wasn’t sure if he should.

‘So I ended up in the hospital for four days while they administered an IV of antibiotics, for my fever to break. And they said, “Look, we don’t know what’s going on,”‘ he recalled.

He added that doctors found various proteins that may have warned of a ‘mᴀssive heart attack’ and recommended CAT scans and Ultrasounds.

‘And as my immune system started to regenerate a little bit, I started to come back. And on the fifth day, they finally said, “Your fever’s gone, you can go home,”‘ he said.

‘But they said, “Had you waited another 48 hours with this, we could have lost you,”‘ Coulier recalled.

The St. Clair Shores, Michigan-born actor told People, ‘I didn’t want them to hear it from someone else, so I sent a text message out.’

‘It was just this outpouring of, “I will be there. You just name the time, and I know you’re in great hands with [wife Melissa] but what can we do?”‘ he said.

Coulier, who’s also worked on popular shows such as Robot Chicken, How I Met Your Mother and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, said of the show’s inner circle: ‘It really is overwhelming the love that we have for each other.
