Jessica Alba DEFENDS Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez’s Blue Origin flight amid ‘space tourism’ backlash

Jessica Alba defended the recent star-studded Blue Origin space flight, amid a fierce public backlash over the trip, which some have called ‘space tourism.’

The Sin City star, 43, took to Instagram on Wednesday with a message for those criticizing the historic all-female voyage.

Jessica reposted a message from political strategist Ana Navarro-Cárdenas, which encouraged the Blue Origin critics to instead focus their energy on ‘denouncing’ President Donald Trump.

‘I’ve seen endless criticisms of 5 women doing their space thing, I can’t see how it affects our lives,’ the message, which Jessica simply captioned ‘this’, read.

‘I wish people would show same energy & focus that anger towards fearlessly denouncing Trump’s abuses of power, which do affect countless lives in the US and the world.’

The rocket, which landed safely in Texas after a 10-minute trip, carried Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, singer Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen.

Alba was among a few famous voices defending the trip.

On the other side, model Emily Ratajkowski doubled down on her criticism, after revealing she was ‘disgusted’ by the expedition.

In a follow-up TikTok rant on Tuesday, Emily blasted Amazon founder Bezos, claiming he has achieved his wealth through ‘exploitation and greed.’

She also made a jab at the five women who were on board of the rocket, saying it was ‘certainly not an accomplishment’ and likened the space trip to the dystopian world of the Hunger Games.

‘I think this space mission is confusing to people because seeing women and people of color in spaces like science and politics, that have not previously included them, feels and looks like, optically, looks like progress,’ she told her followers.

‘But the truth is that having a man, who has gained his power and become a part of the one percent purely through exploitation and greed, deciding to take his fiancée and a few other famous women into space for space tourism is not progress.’

Emily went on: ‘Instead it just speaks to the fact that we are absolutely living in an oligarchy, where there is a very small group of people who are interested in going to space for the sake of getting a new lease on life, while the rest of the population, most people on planet Earth, are worried about paying rent or having dinner for their kids.’

‘I saw a creator on here who said that privilege is not an accomplishment. I’m going further and saying that exploitation is certainly not an acvecomplishemt.’

‘And then being able to take the privilege that you have gained from exploitation and greed of the planet, of resources, of human beings, and then doing something like going to space for 11 minutes, is certainly not an accomplishment.’

‘That’s why this all is giving like Hunger Games, right?’

At the end she added that the space trip was ‘not real progress.’

She then followed it up with another video slamming the ‘oligarchy’ and claimed that the system is ‘designed to make us complicit.’

Emily highlighted that some people do not have the luxury of ‘thinking about ethical consumption’ and that because they need the ‘cheapest’ item they will purchase it off Amazon.

‘On either side of the spectrum, in order to survive or thrive, you’re consuming, you’re part of the system.’

‘But there’s a whole other level of unequal wealth distribution,’ she added, using billionaire Elon Musk as an example.

‘There is a very small group of people who take this all to another level. And I would like for us to just focus on what’s happening in this oligarchy, rather than pointing fingers at each other.’

In a previous video she blasted the trip: ‘Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?’

‘And then to try to make it like… I’m disgusted, literally I’m disgusted.’

Ratajkowski was not the only star taking jabs at the space mission. Olivia Wilde and Olivia Munn also shared their disapproval.

Having safely returned to Texas, Perry was pH๏τographed kissing the ground, a picture that quickly spread across social media.

Wilde shared the pH๏τo to her Instagram Stories, writing, ‘Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess.’

Earlier this month, Munn slammed the space mission ahead of its launch, while appearing on Today With Jenna And Friends.

‘What are they doing? Like why? You know what I mean?’ she said. ‘I know that this is probably not the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.’

Munn then added, ‘What are you going to do up in space? What are you doing up there?’

The mother-of-two went on to compare the launch to a ride at Disneyland, before asking why those on the trip needed ‘to tell’ everyone about it, versus just going up, having a nice time and coming back down.

NFL reporter Jane Slater branded the Blue Origin mission ’embarrᴀssing’.

‘The whole thing was embarrᴀssing. So many smart women who worked their whole life to go to space and did the work,’ she wrote.

‘She (Perry) took a daisy and promoted a set list for her new album. If she really cared? Give your spot up to a young girl in the NASA program.’

Blue Origin Flight NS-31 marked the first launch with an all-female crew since Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo space flight in 1963.

Gayle and Sanchez did not hold back as they defended their choice to embark on Blue Origin’s first all-female flight.

Hours after their round-trip expedition, the duo answered questions about the backlash over their voyage, specifically what they thought about Munn calling the trip ‘gluttonous.’

King, 70, revealed to People that she feels that anyone ‘criticizing it doesn’t really understand what is happening here.’

Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission launched from the company’s Launch Site One about 30 miles north of Van Horn, Texas, at 14:30 BST (09:30) local time.

The New Shepard Rocket carried the capsule to the edge of space at nearly twice the speed of sound before detaching and allowing the crew to experience a few minutes of weightlessness.

During that period the crew capsule crossed the Karman Line, technically pᴀssing from Earth’s atmosphere into space.

The capsule then made the return journey back to Earth, as the unfurling parachutes drew screams from the crew onboard.

Just 11 minutes after launch, the New Shepard capsule touched down within driving distance of the launch platform where Blue Origin founder Bezos was present to open the hatch.
