James Corden has reportedly won a planning battle to build an extension at his new £11.5 million London home, after being hit by complaints from neighbours.
The presenter, 46, relocated back to the UK in 2023, and after purchasing the swanky property last year, had put in plans to the local council for an extension with a gym, office, ‘den’, spa and shower room.
The design faced backlash for being oversized, and received 18 letters of objection from neighbours, according to The Sun.
One complainant noted that the family have already caused noise in the area, saying: ‘One of them plays the drums, which can often be heard on my terrace and occasionally inside my flat even with the windows closed.
‘What happens if they decide to move the drum kit out of the house and put it in the den?’
James’ planning team then applied for a Lawful Development Certificate, which proposes that the plans don’t require full planning permission if it means a certain criteria such as the size of the structure.

The planning officer agreed in their report that the application had satisfied requirements, and dismissed any noise complaints.
However, the decision notice stated that James’ construction team should be careful not to damage nearby trees and can’t be used as a ‘granny flat’.
Some residents, conservation groups and the local society had expressed concerns over the plans, with many questioning the impact on surrounding trees in neighbouring gardens, even though none will be felled in the building work.
MailOnline has contacted a representative for James Corden for comment.
Earlier this year, James spoke about his decision to return to the UK with his wife Julia Carey and their three children, after he quit The Late Late Show in 2023.
He told The Today Show: ‘It’s been brilliant, and hard, and overwhelming. I think moving house is hard enough, moving children, moving schools – picking it up and going so far, from everything they knew from life in – it’s been a real challenge.
‘It’s been tough. But at the same time, immensely rewarding. But my son was 3 when we moved [to America], my daughter was 12 weeks.
‘When we left, he was 12, my daughter was eight, and our younger daughter – who is an American, and we treat her as such…

‘No, really for us, it was the notion that it was time. We wanted them to know their grandparents.
‘And with my son finishing 6th grade, it was just an absolute pull to go home, and root that period of their lives in — we wanted them to know Britain, and their extended family.’
The Gavin & Stacey star quietly bought the £11.5million mansion in north west London last year.
The property was sold to the former US chat show host last summer, records show, while the family moved in at Christmas time, according to a neighbour.
Before moving in, Corden splashed out on renovating his new home, adding an interior balcony and spiral staircase at the rear of the house.
He also added timber privacy screens on the eastern sides of the balcony and made sure these works were completed in time for their December move in date.
Corden and his wife Julia, 48, were spotted house-hunting in Hampstead in July 2023 before they left Los Angeles for good.
His LA mansion was snapped up for $17.1million that same month by the daughter of a Hong Kong private equity billionaire – $5million less than what he wanted.
The Cordens previously owned a £6million mansion in Belsize Park, north west London on the same street as Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
The presenter got into a war with the neighbour he shared with Chris Martin over a planning application to build a huge ‘iceberg basement’ extension next door.
The Coldplay frontman, who had bought his London pad from Kate Winslet for £2.5million in 2004, did not formally object to the plans at the time.
Despite Corden’s objections, the planning application for the neighbour’s basement was granted and the TV star sold his Belsize Park home in April 2021.
The Cordens are no strangers to a renovation themselves, as they are in the middle of building a luxurious new £8million country pad in Oxfordshire.

The couple were granted permission last April to demolish a 1960s house they bought in Oxfordshire after waiting a year for approval.
The demolition previously faced objections from the local council and English Heritage, before it was finally given the green light for the works.
Plans for the application show that the vast project will mean the excavation of 4,977 cubic metres of soil – the equivalent of two Olympic-sized swimming pools.
They plan to install a sauna, steam room and swimming pool as part of the expensive housing project.
The couple have been married since 2012 and share three children together.
