Tommy Fury has announced his return to boxing after his controversial match against KSI and undergoing major surgery for a career-threatening hand injury.
The boxer, 25, has not appeared in the ring since beating KSI, whose real name is Olajide Olatunji, in October 2023 – a result the YouTuber called ‘outrageous’.
The 2019 Love Island contestant was set to face former UFC star Darren Till in a comeback bout in January.
However, that fight never ended up taking place after Fury pulled out of the bout after Till threatened to kick him in the head.
But taking to Instagram on Monday, Fury announced he is set to return to the ring after 18 months away with a comeback fight in Budapest on May 9.
‘Two years out,’ Fury said. ‘One surgery. The hardest battle I’ve faced has been the mental battle of being away from boxing.

‘But I’m back stronger, sharper, and more HUNGARY than ever. May 9th, Budapest… It’s showtime. Let’s go!’
Fury did not reveal who he would be fighting.

‘Get ready for a night of fire and fury on May 9th, as he steps back into the spotlight where he belongs.’
Fury’s return to boxing was delayed by a hand injury, and he has since revealed that his right hand had been a persistent issue since his third professional fight, at times forcing him to train solely with his left hand.
Despite the pain, he pressed on until last year, when surgery became unavoidable.
‘The surgery was the best way to do it, and it’s healed well,’ Fury shared. ‘I’m just grateful to be standing here with a healthy hand.’
Alongside a picture of him in hospital last January, he wrote: ‘Since 2019 I have been dealing with a hand injury that I’ve never spoken about/shared online.

‘Since my third professional fight I have been trying to manage this injury, training and fighting through extreme pain which lead to me often not being able to use my right hand at all.
‘For the last four weeks of my last camp I trained solely with my left hand until fight night. This morning I underwent the surgery I’ve been putting off for years as I know this is the only way my hand will heal and that I can move forward with my boxing career.
‘I’m excited for my recovery journey and so ready to be back feeling and giving 100% in 2024.’
