Back in January an inside source also explained that Colson is excited for the next chapter of his career and said viewers should look forward to a ‘brilliant exit storyline’.
During one episode of his podcast with Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) and Ben Price (Nick Tilsley), he revealed how he felt about his departure and how it came about.
He admitted that he had known he was due to leave the show since the end of October and has kept it a secret for three months.
Recalling how he found out, he explained: ‘As an actor, especially on a soap, we’re all on year-long contracts so you always know when your renewal time is coming up.
‘I’d had a couple of chats with you two where I said I wasn’t feeling too confident about this renewal period.
‘I just had a feeling that the tide had slightly changed for Craig and had changed for the character, so I said I had a feeling.’
He continued: ‘And then I remember I got a phone call on a Monday night from the bosses PA saying can you have a meeting tomorrow night at 7pm.
‘The first thing I did was I rang Ben and I said it is happening and it’s happening tomorrow night.’
Despite being best known for his role in Coronation Street, he has appeared in other shows.
Some include Reverie, Hollow Wood, Jailhouse Dog.
The soap star has also taken part in reality shows such as Sitting on a Fortune, The Games and Celebrity Big Brother.
Colson was nominated for Best Young Actor at the Inside Soap Awards in 2015.
