Kate Garraway has revealed her teenage son’s brutal injury ‘at the worst possible time’ as she replaced Lorraine Kelly in a ITV hosting shake-up.
The 57-year-old stepped in for the Scottish presenter, 65, on ITV’s Lorraine on Monday morning, for the first time in 11 years.
Doctor Hilary Jones appeared on the sofa to chat about some healthy Easter eggs, but before he went into that, he wanted to know how Kate’s kids are getting on.
Kate, who previously stood in for Lorraine during the holidays until 2014, said: ‘Well, they’re doing well. So Billy has got, he’s going his GCSEs at the moment.
‘They start really early! In my day, which was O-Levels, it was all June! But now, most of his are over by the end of May.
‘He did break his arm two weeks ago, really badly in three places.

Last month Kate spoke about the ‘triggering’ stages of grief with Hairy Bikers star Si King, who lost his friend and Hairy Bikers co-star Dave Myers in February 2024 after a battle with cancer.
Kate emotionally spoke about how she often thinks about Derek when she is cooking as she asked Si what his ‘triggers’ are amid his grief.
She said: ‘Grief isn’t linear, is it? We talk a lot, don’t we, about the stages of grief and you go back and forth with it.

‘I find often one of the triggers because Dave sadly pᴀssed away not long after my husband.

‘You and I have talked about this together, but one of the triggers is actually smells, sights and sounds.
‘Do you find yourself, when you’re making a recipe, that you devised together, just having a little moment and thought of him?’
Back in January the journalist admitted that she’s been trying to ‘shift a bit of gloom’ after the one year anniversary of her husband’s death.
In an Instagram post the star shared a snap of her frost covered window as she shared a motivational message following what has no doubt been a difficult period following her loss.
Kate wrote: ‘Boy it’s cold out there – very beautiful though.
‘Trying to shift a bit of gloom by cracking on today with lots of jobs have been putting off and soaking up the beauty of nature while I do it!’
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 from 9am and is available to stream on ITVX.
